Posting memorable and impactful college football games that would’ve been just another forgettable crazy game that fades out of memory with a 24 team playoff

@ralphieboywvu @BradPowers7 March Madness is certainly unmatched as one of the best postseasons. But basketball and football are different sports. And college football is the best regular season in American sports. I don’t want to ruin that for a few more mediocre teams to get into the postseason

@SavingCFB @BradPowers7 I think playoff implications whether it be to make it or seeding won’t fade anything.A breakaway would fade interest. College bball has 30+ games. College football is only guaranteed 12.That’s a huge difference. While NCAA tourney is still thought of as one of the best postseasons

@ralphieboywvu @BradPowers7 No the difference is that you can lose 40% of your games and still have a shot at the championship. In the SEC, the 3rd place team in the regular season won the conference title and the teams who finished 5th and 10th went farthest in the tournament, or “had the best year”

@ralphieboywvu @BradPowers7 I think national interest will fade for games outside their region without playoff implications on the line. College basketball still has good matchups in the regular season but it’s pointless. Everybody makes the conference tournament and every contender makes March Madness

@SavingCFB @BradPowers7 I honestly get they don’t want to have to pay for more shitty matchups/games. But I don’t see how adding even 10 more teams in the postseason hurts their massively successful ratings boon they had for those 13 weekends. As long as matchups are there, they’ll still get ratings.

@ralphieboywvu @BradPowers7 Fair. ESPN still owns the most valuable properties. Imo they’re simply trying to protect the value of their much greater catalog of content which is 13 already negotiated weekends of regular season football plus multiple conference championship games

@SavingCFB @BradPowers7 Yup my apologies, I misunderstood. Only the new games go for bid. I was thinking the whole thing goes up if it expands past 14. My mistake.

@ralphieboywvu @BradPowers7 Wait why would ESPN lose later rounds? That’s not what happens here lol I think you’ve misunderstood how this all works. It’s only the new games that are open for negotiation, and ESPN still gets first bid if they want them.

@SavingCFB @BradPowers7 It takes an ounce of critical thinking to come to conclusion a 24 team CFP takes away valuable later round matchups ESPN currently owns/broadcasts. Them being ok with 16 which adds to those “terrible first round matchups” pretty much proves this.

@ralphieboywvu @BradPowers7 Because ESPN has a vested interest in the value of the REGULAR SEASON. The added playoff games won’t get better ratings than conference championship games… half the current 1st rd playoff games got terrible ratings

@BradPowers7 Are people really in here making comments like a sitting A4 commissioner didn’t literally say ESPN doesn’t want this thing going past 16? lol

@keowee403 @ugacdawg @BradPowers7 Some people have apparently found some clause where if it goes past 16 teams the remaining games get put out to bid… so they’ve convinced themselves ESPN/SEC is just trying to hold everyone down

October 1st, 2016: #4 Clemson vs #5 Louisville Deshaun Watson vs Lamar Jackson. Both men etched their names in history during this epic shootout with perfection & a playoff on the line. Clemson came away with the win and playoff spot. Louisville/Lamar came away with the Heisman

October 15th, 2005: #9 Notre Dame vs #1 USC “The Bush Push” a day that will live in infamy. Reggie Bush gives Leinart the much needed shove into the end zone to keep their perfect season, and shot at 3-peat, alive!

@NHBuhlahkay @AndyStaples @BCSKnowHow I actually agree with you completely. Just pointing out some of the talking points that led to the committee to begin with I think a mixed ranking combining a committee poll, media poll, coaches poll, and a variety of the top computer models is probably the least biased approach

@SavingCFB @AndyStaples @BCSKnowHow And Texas lost on the field to tech who lost on the field to OU. That was a wild one for sure. The bigger point I’m trying to make is that we have more transparency if we see the criteria

Tennessee AD Danny White made an interesting suggestion last week: Would a return to something like the BCS formula be a better way to pick College Football Playoff teams? Thanks to @BCSKnowHow, we have an idea of how that would have looked from 2014-25 on3.com/news/would-a-r…

@AndyStaples @NHBuhlahkay @BCSKnowHow It also would’ve ranked Notre Dame above Miami and Vanderbilt over Texas. Much of the reason for a committee was that on field results matter more than analytics. In 08, OU lost on the field to Texas but went to the natty because the computers loved that they ran up the score

@AndyStaples @BCSKnowHow Here is what the BCS would’ve had for last year. Not much different, but if you just remove the Auto-bids the top 12 includes all the teams who actually deserved to be in the playoffs

October 14th 2014: #2 FSU vs #5 Notre Dame Some late game heroics and a last second pass interference call sealed the win for FSU, extending their 23 game win streak, and keeping them in the playoff race while eliminating the Irish

@TJ_Pittinger @CFBTalkDaily My bad, I was distracted thinking about when FSU was actually elite and held off #5 Notre Dame to extend their 23 game win streak back in 2014
