It’s really funny that, statistically speaking, the best role for winning an Oscar is The Joker

The problem with The Razzies is that they haven't changed as Hollywood evolved. They need to raise their aim to who is in power. Their should be a Razzie for creative bankruptcy. And "live action" Moana should be the frontrunner. Studios and their heads should be taken to task.

Like most others, I followed the Afroman civil suit with great amusement. I do wonder, is that testimony going to present credibility concerns for those officers going forward?

@obsessafilma No more than your condescending attitude about what other people do with their property. Which you apparently have no respect for. That's on you. "But, I want it now" is a toddler's attitude.

Random vent because I'm absolutely fuming over this - there's no reason whatsoever for Pre-Code films, especially the obscure ones, to NOT be public domain. I know for a fact this title survives in its entirety and was digitised but I can't find it ANYWHERE on the Internet.

Do the Oscar voters not realize that openly admitting to skipping movies diminishes the legitimacy of the Oscars themselves. We don't know that the winners are actually the best, they're just what the Academy felt like watching.
ToonHive@ToonHive

Some Oscar voters have reportedly chosen to skip voting in the Best Animated Feature category this year, according to anonymous voters. “When my kids were little I used to be much more up to speed on this category, but now I’m not, so I’m sitting it out.”

@RealJDDuran A24 released The Brutalist. Searchlight released Ann Lee. A24 cares and are good at their job.

I could understand, just as a film on its own terms, why it wouldn’t receive as many Oscar nominations as The Brutalist, but to be completely ignored is beyond baffling. Will never understand that.
Zak@zakfilm

The Brutalist landed 10 nominations last year while The Testament of Ann Lee left empty handed. It’s the same filmmaking team with a great critics reception and arguably had more category possibilities so did the Academy just not bother to watch the film.

@JDBrooks90 @colinthecrabb To be fair, an Oscar vote is not a job. It's a perk you earn from your actual job. It doesn't make the voter any less irresponsible and dishonerable. But the 'do your job' argument is tired and inaccurate.

@zakfilm Oscar voting ends today. Nobody is changing their vote for a film that hasn't opened.

Where was this energy for Adrien Brody when he worked on a lot of slop for 20 years before The Brutalist
The Times and The Sunday Times@thetimes

Jessie Buckley has been a shoe in for the Best Actress Oscar all awards season. But her performance in Maggie Gyllenhaal's flashy, incoherent Frankenstein reboot The Bride! is so bad, it would make even Academy voters think twice. @Kslone4 @MattBelloni 3 movies spread out over 30 years isn't a very convincing argument. There are more examples than these, but you can just as easily say that musicals typically do well based on La La Land, Chicago, and Evita. Yes, Period Dramas can do well, but "typically do well" is a stretch.

Wuthering Heights just hit $200 million at the worldwide box office. A good number for a period drama, but the movie cost Warners about $85 million, so still not a big moneymaker for the studio.

@OriginalBad @burntsouffle David Lynch was much more relevant to filmgoers in the 21st century. Arguably even at the box office. That said, it's not a contest. There's been plenty of honoring of David Lynch too.

@burntsouffle When he passed, the difference in ways he passed and Reiner was much bigger to mainstream audiences. Would have loved to see Lynch get more respect but these aren’t equal situations.

Economics teaches us that something is only valuable because it is scarce. What this means is, the more abundant a resource is, the less valuable it would be. For example, you can get a bottle of water for $2 at the store. Why? 70% of Earth's surface is covered in water. On the contrary, diamonds are worth thousands because they aren't found everywhere. If this rock were to hit Earth, and it were mined, gold would become worthless.

One of the underappreciated parts of Alan Moore's Swamp Thing run is that he found ways to highlight the talents of the entire creative team including lettering and colors. Here he gives Tatjana Wood a challenge of a blue world and she kills it.
