The targeted attack outside the Toronto Islamic Centre is deeply alarming and wholly condemnable. Hatred directed at people of faith has no place in this country, and no Canadian should ever feel threatened while exercising their fundamental right to worship freely.
We stand in unequivocal solidarity with Muslim communities in Toronto and across the country. Our commitment to Canadians safety is not rhetorical — it demands concrete action. We will continue working with partners to ensure safety, accountability, and zero tolerance for hate and islamophobia in Canada.
Canada’s strength is found in its diversity. Protecting that strength means speaking out, standing together, and taking real action against bigotry in all its forms.

Israeli settlers have increasingly used violence against Palestinians in a bid to drive them from their homes in the occupied West Bank. But sexual assault appears to be a new weapon in these settlers’ arsenal of intimidation, pointing to a troubling new level of violence. cnn.it/4du8vj6

Congratulations to Gilles Brassard on the Turing Award — the highest honour in computer science — recognizing his pioneering work in quantum cryptography that laid the foundation for ultra-secure communication.
At a time of rising cyber threats, that work is helping build a safer digital future for Canada and the world.

Former Globe colleague Tamsin McMahon died of cancer a few days ago after a two-year battle. She worked through it; her final byline was barely a week ago. Every time we collabed on a Big Tech story back in the day, she was a gracious pro. Gone far too soon

Now-Liberal MP Lori Idlout rose from the government benches for the first time at today's QP, with a question directed at the Minister of Northern and Arctic Affairs Rebecca Chartrand.
Idlout said she "proud to join a team that will take the larger picture of the current political environment and set on meeting the immediate needs of the North." #cdnpoli

I was proud to stand with my colleagues today and announce an investment of up to $10 million to be provided to organizations through the Canada Community Security Program (CCSP) to respond directly to the security needs of Jewish communities.
The recent rise in antisemitic attacks at synagogues across the GTA is deeply troubling and unacceptable. Hate and antisemitism have no place in our communities. This funding will support Jewish community command centres that coordinate monitoring and security for local institutions.
To Jewish communities in Toronto and across Canada: you are not alone — your government stands with you against antisemitism, hatred, and violence in all its forms.
