"The Imperium are the good guys" is a complex view, presented simplistically. It factors in WHY things are the way they are, HOW mankind got to where they are and WHO is responsible for making them that way. Saying it with certainly requires knowledge and understanding of the lore on a deeper level. "Warhammer 40k has no good guys" is what you say when you're either new, uneducated, or deliberately mischaracterizing the setting and the factions.
