I just do not understand what “pudding” means to the English. “Dessert”—ok fine. Yorkshire “pudding”—a popover. Huh? “Black pudding”—a kind of sausage. What does “pudding” even signify? These things have literally nothing in common in their preparation, ingredients, or function

@AliceFromQueens It depends on your teeth/mouth biome. I get a lot of plaque despite my best cleaning efforts so I actually need two cleanings a year. But some people can go years with no problem

I know this is a popular topic but I'm the age James Gandolfini was when the pilot was filmed (35) and I don't know anyone who looks that old. Of hundreds of friends and acquaintances. Even the smokers, heavy drinkers, bad dieters. Not even close. Was it air pollution? Lead?

i think the reason bright, energetic young men butt heads with schoolteachers, overwhelmingly women, is teachers simply have no theory of mind for male students, or arent willing to find the patience necessary to teach boys, whose learning styles are significantly higher variance

I truly hate this argument, which assumes men simply have names but women’s are all somehow men’s. By this logic, it’s not your dad’s name either - it’s his dad’s. And not his either - his dad’s. Your name is actually your name. And yes of course women should have the legal right to change their names in marriage but let’s please not lie to ourselves that marital name-changing isn’t incredibly sexist and a very literal manifestation of patriarchal power. So is patrilineal naming for children, btw. One answer to “but it’s my dad’s name” might be to stop giving children dad’s name for a while.

My niche take here is that beer is criminally underexplored for serious food pairings.
Everybody oohs and ahhs over wine pairings, but a good beer pairing is even better. A kolsch with seafood, wheat beer with spicy pickled foods, a strong brown ale with BBQ or sausages, etc.

I’m sorry to say this, but I just do not get wine and food. I like wine, and I like food, but I don’t see how they go together. A cold glass of water is always a more refreshing accompaniment to a meal for me.
