Self-obsession is the ultimate luxury good. And never forget that luxury is a compression algorithm. I am deeply grateful for what I have learned through the lives and outputs of these men--I’ve been introduced to many thinkers and concepts and modalities that have, and will continue to shape my onward journey in life. That said, I think just as with all things, we tend to mistake the menu for the meal, we turn so many lessons into aesthetics and identity, we hunt for belonging and status in a vacuum of actual social interaction. We listen to people we don't know in our headphones or alone in our cars, who we look at as successful, and then mimic their behaviors, alone in the gym, or writing our blogs, or practicing our guitar, so that we might be good enough that one day we might be able to share our bodies and music and lives with others. Even more than this cohort, I'm worried about a future being projected and mimicking the boring lives of those in silicon valley and austin and other american cities. Places where people live alone in big boxes, in new clean clothes, only to get in to their car (another box), to go to their office to work alone, or to the gym to be alone in their headphones, or to the sterile white clothed restaurant where you can look around at other people but never actually interact. The dream of designing a life of convenience where everything is delivered and done for you, where someone else is raising your children, and all so that you can 'change the world' with your optimization and 'purpose', which in the end is really just separation. The current American Dream is to achieve separateness and it is very easy to sell by these men and so many others.

Bernie asked the people at his rally to yell what stresses them out the most. People respond and he validates what they say. Never seen a politician do this.

The ultimate goal is to have a life so beautifully designed that work, rest, and play cease to exist. They all blur together and are indistinguishable.

If life feels too comfortable, you’re probably not on the right path. You want to be in an environment that forces you to grow every day, not wake up one day realizing that you were living on autopilot.

the reason why people like trump & elon is simple: most ppl are genuinely tired of phony, rehearsed, planned, almost un-human like “leaders” with nothing but corp & political speak. people just wanna know if they can relate. cracking a joke? relating. laughing at a meme? relating. being able to make fun of stuff? relating. the old conceptual notion of what a leader is supposed to be is changing hardcore.

It's crazy to think that 99% of the content we consume comes from people in the business of commenting, complaining, and hot takes, NOT from people in the business of making, creating, or fixing things

Last video I did something pretty stupid. You might've already seen it, but maybe not so I'll address it here. There was a clip with the action cam of me test driving a car and going way to fast. Absolutely inexcusable and dangerous. I've since cut it out of the video with YouTube's editor tool. I also understand that this looks like covering it up, but I think it's the right thing to do. There's no reason to leave that clip in (there was no reason to include it in the first place) and I would never want to make it seem ok by leaving it in the video. I'm well aware of the Streisand effect, and I know everything on the internet lives forever, but I think that's the best decision right now. All I can do apologize and promise never to do anything close to that stupid again. That's a terrible example to set and I'm sorry for it.

Different meanings can be assigned to the same events. Look for evidence of how the world is encouraging you, and you will find it. Look for evidence of how the world is burdening you, and you will find it. Choose an explanation that empowers you.

When you finally realize that someone’s behavior has more to do with their internal struggle than it ever did with you, you learn grace. You also naturally learn detachment as well.
