Thoughts on the Standard Model 3 and Standard Model Y from someone who spent a lot of time selling Model 3s and Ys: Tesla’s most popular models went down in price where everyone else just got $7500 expensive. They did so while maintaining the things that are most important to CUSTOMERS (range, FSD, and functionality) and the most important thing to INVESTORS (profitability). That’s huge for narrative as well as preventing an extended extreme dropoff in sales that will inevitably result. This is a golden opportunity to seize back market share that they’ve lost in the EV space. Once the sugar crash of the tax credit going away fades, Tesla is extremely well positioned to a degree that nobody else in the America is. The lower pricing means it’s cheaper for Tesla to buy down rates and offer aggressive promotions, making it easier to attract buyers. They were able to get the $43k dollar Model 3 to $299/mo with $0 down at one point so imagine what they can do with the $36k Model 3. As an investor I hope and expect to see Tesla start pushing very aggressive financing and lease deals to acquire more customers. The lower pricing also means that it’s easier for people to qualify for lending and leasing. $100 a month doesn’t seem like a lot but it is. It’s a lot easier for people to qualify for a loan if it’s 5 grand smaller. They also managed to do this without devaluing existing vehicles and burning their owners (again) with an huge depreciation hit. Going from $100k Model S to $45k Model 3 is less of a challenge in some respects because you can delete expensive stuff like the air suspension. It’s way harder to go from $43k Model 3 to $36k Model 3 without making the car feel like a total POS. They’ve made a great car that appeals to a broader group of people. Most importantly, it’s a Trojan Horse to get FSD to more people. The journey is made of many small steps and these vehicles represent another step down the path to a future of sustainable abundance.

@mikepat711 Grok is incredible at generating softcore goon material for terminally online people. It holds the undisputed lead there. I'm sure there's a reason that they're pursuing imagine so aggressively to the detriment of everything else, but it's puzzling to the the uninformed

This is one of the two biggest reasons why I still end up not using grok that often. The second is that it lacks features like Claude’s work helper/cowork, or perplexity’s spaces/perplexity computer. Seems like the real emphasis is on imagine, which is cool but mostly useless for someone like me. Hoping to see them add stuff like this soon. Today I’d say I use Claude 80% of the time, Gemini 10% (because it’s integrated with chrome), and Grok the other 10%. Just started using comet though which is probably replacing Gemini. And I am a person who actually wants to use Grok over all others. But the features others have are just too useful for now.

@AdamLowisz It should be able to do a good analysis today. Grok outputting files in different formats is coming next week.

When are the Tesla Model S & X going to receive ANC? It’s in the settings, it’s been advertised — but it literally doesn’t activate and sits at “0% calibrating”. Is this something @Tesla acknowledges?

Just spoke to @POTUS about our European allies’ unwillingness to provide assets to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning, which benefits Europe far more than America. I have never heard him so angry in my life. I share that anger given what’s at stake. The arrogance of our allies to suggest that Iran with a nuclear weapon is of little concern and that military action to stop the ayatollah from acquiring a nuclear bomb is our problem not theirs is beyond offensive. The European approach to containing the ayatollah’s nuclear ambitions have proven to be a miserable failure. The repercussions of providing little assistance to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning are going to be wide and deep for Europe and America. I consider myself very forward-leaning on supporting alliances, however at a time of real testing like this, it makes me second guess the value of these alliances. I am certain I am not the only senator who feels this way.

It's an unbelievable multi-year self-own for a trillion dollar company to not have any kind of PR department. Absolute insanity that they tee themselves up for this kind of nonsense and that nobody has gotten it through Elon's thick skull that they should at least make an effort.

'TERRIFYING': Dashcam video shows the moment a Tesla Cybertruck, allegedly operating in self-driving mode, nearly sent a Houston mom and her infant off a bridge before violently crashing into an overpass barrier. The woman claims she suffered multiple injuries from the incident and is now suing the automaker for $1 million.

@PebMet1 I love that you think bringing up the fact that Raptor production is so high that two flights threw away more than what was built by legacy contractors in half a century and that *Raptor* is the problem in this scenario lmflo

Starship is on Raptor 3 and still no where close to mission ready. Since 1981, a total of 46 RS-25s were used for the 135 Shuttle launches and what is coming up on the 2nd Artemis flight. Starship threw away more than that in only 2 flights.

Let's see: US and Israeli warplanes range freely over Iran, having hit thousands of targets, and are hitting more every day. The Iranian leadership has been taken out. Its new leader cannot or will not show his face. Its air defenses have been ineffective, destroyed or both. Its navy is largely gone. So It has now effectively blocked ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway vital to its own economy. US media would have you believe Iran has turned the tide in the war because blocking the strait never occurred to US war planners. You can choose to believe this. I don't.

Before everyone gets carried away with the bombing of Kharg Island, there are a few things to know: - It's got a military presence like everything else in Iran. That's what was struck. They'll most likely get replaced ASAP from the mainland. - It also has 55 crude oil storage tanks that can capacitate over 34 million barrels. They're most likely unscathed. - There was a VLCC supertanker today that was wrapping up her 48h loading there of 2 million barrels. A couple of smaller tankers loaded or were just berthed on the east side of the island. - Kharg Island has been loading tankers non-stop since the war broke out two weeks ago. - If folks here start posting satellite data showing fires on the island to imply destruction of the oil facilities, then compare them against old images because there's gas flaring happening there daily. You can review them here: #t:tsd;d:2026-03-13;@50.316,29.232,13.288z" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/map/#t:tsd;d:2… - Although the island has some offshore oil production, the bulk of the oil actually derives from the mainland via multiple pipelines. The island first began exporting oil during the summer of 1960 and was built to capacitate 7 million barrels per day in exports, to reflect the potential in oil production. Iran hit 6.6 Mbpd in production back in 1976. - According to our tracking, the island accounted for 96% of the Iran's crude oil exports during 2025; or 1.538 Mbpd of the 1.605 Mbpd total. - When Saddam Hussein raided the island numerous times forty years ago and destroyed a number of storage tanks, Kharg Island was still able to export over 1.5 million barrels per day. Here's a 40 year old sat pic we keep handy. Thanks, /TT #OOTT #Iran #KhargIsland #Tankers

Quarter is given solely in wars where both sides consider each other to be of the same civilization. Under no other circumstances was quarter ever given. I suspect Dan actually knows that.
Dan Carlin@dccommonsense

People act like somehow "Quarter" is a sign of weakness or a lack of resolve to do what it takes to win. It's not. It's an unwritten reciprocal understanding that if you don't take prisoners, the other side will likely decide not to as well."No quarter" is terrible for all troops.
