Why it doesn't matter now if Luxon is replaced 1) It is too late. A replacement should have occurred over the Christmas break but the Nats were too timid. 2) None of the potential replacements will significantly improve that Nat's dismal polling. So there is no profit in such a move. 3) Things are going OK really, as the Coalition still has a significant parliamentary seat advantage. All that really counts. In the end, the Nats are paying the price for the same kind of political perfidy that has seen the UK Conservatives and the Australian Liberals become minor parties. The current ruling clique in National are traitors to the spirit of National party founder Sid Holland, who would be appalled if he ever saw what his grand old party has become today. Finally, if there is one Nat MP who should never become leader it is Nicola Willis. IMHO she has over time been the person behind so much mischief within the party. Mischief that has accelerated its slide to the left. Willis and all proteges of John Key (the real destroyer) have brought the party to its lowest point ever. Therefore, after the election, win or lose, they should be kicked out of the party forthwith.
