@figmadesign I wrote a Figma plugin to help create radial systems for watch design and then made a component library for easy iteration. Final designs get scaled and exported as vector files for printing.

@carlyayres Fun read, thanks for sharing. You mentioned John Maeda was president during your time at RISD so we probably overlapped! (GD ‘11)

@lilykonings Hi Lily, super excited to hear about the FigJam role. (applied immediately) I've been focused on building collaborative canvas based products in my past two roles and can't imagine joining a better team. iancox.com

@ryhanhassan I’m working on a Figma plugin but due to sandboxing I can’t access the microphone or camera. I’m not sure I’ll be able to build what I want without this. I’ve explored giving access via an external browser via web sockets but the experience of opening another window is so clunky.

Recently I've been thinking a lot about expression in product design tools. What are some examples of things you wish you could make, but can't quite achieve with the tools we have today?

@Ash_uxi @maxvoltar @rogie @figma @lbudorick Shortcuts would be great. Would also be curious to explore a preview of the results while hovering, similar to the previews for blend modes. Sometimes when merging more complex paths, this would be helpful. Would also be fine if it only showed the preview while holding option.

@MrNick_Buzz I built my first Figma plugin with typescript in VS Code. It took some trail and error and a bit of stack overflow research to get it working. More recently I built a plugin with help from ChatGPT. Cursor+sonnet has made projects like these faster and much more accessible.
Ian Cox@i_cox

Yesterday I built a fun little plugin for blending shapes and colors in @figma. There's a long list of features that I didn't have time to build and a few remaining bugs but I figured it was useful enough to share. Will add a link to the plugin below :)

Are there any non devs who have build an app, extension or something cool using Cursor AI? All I see is devs hyping up Cursor, haven’t found a designer or a non technical person raving about Cursor.

@IKoutepas @ilyamiskov If you want the minimal Bauhaus aesthetic, I’d consider a Junghans watch from the Max Bill Collection or a Braun watch if you’re ok with Quartz. It’s going to be hard to beat Nomos for quality and design aesthetic without making some sacrifices. junghans.de/en/collection/…

@IKoutepas @ilyamiskov I don’t believe so, Nomos is pretty unique. Great value and quality of watchmaking + beautiful design details. If you want something more affordable, you might check out Baltic. baltic-watches.com/en/products/he… Or Nomos Club Campus Autódromo group B Tissot PRX Seiko Pressage SRPG07J1

@CarolynNYC @mnolangray I immediately recognized the first image as the Spring St. Starbucks. Didn’t even consider that the second image could be the same place

It's wild how Starbucks went from classic "third place" to the cutting edge of hostile architecture in a span of like a decade.

We're about to send out the first early-access invitations to Playbit, starting with 100 randomly selected email addresses from the early-access signup form on our website. If you have the curiosity, feel brave and are comfortable with computer programming, let me know if you'd like to get access. This first release *only works if you have an arm Mac.* We essentially give you a mac app that is a virtual machine which runs Playbit (think: a video game in full-screen mode.) This makes it easy try. In future early-access releases we will increase compatibility to other architectures and platforms. It will be a *very* early release where most of the exciting and interesting features are promised for the future are absent. You can sign up for early access here: playb.it

@zlatov_cristina I think the browser we choose for development (to preview progress) has it’s own unique quirks but they get fixed along the way. The quirks in other browsers often don’t get found until later when we do wider testing. At this point they have started to pile up and lack context.

@21five_public @mattdowney @rileyj_s 100%, Sonos is beautiful. Love that you can mount them to the ceiling and and the logo works exactly the same upside down. The symmetry is more than a cool visual trick, it’s functional.
