The sickening indignant entitlement of those complaining about private schools being taxed appropriately so that money can be invested in poorer kids, is something that I find difficult to comprehend, probably because I didn’t go to private school.

I was 60 - so retired instead. My ex colleagues have just taken another pay cut. Maybe the private school owners should reassess their business plans.

@griseldamussett @implausibleblog @JulieR_isc This is rubbish. Most small private schools are £9k pa. It is not costing the tax payer anything because it is well established across Europe that education is not taxed.

@jcarroll71 @BethRigby @Patrici89225734 Eton is the exception, most small primary private schools charge about £9k per annum. Unfortunately, Labour know how much everyone hates Eton because of BJ and use that argument. The reality of most small private schools is very different.

@BethRigby @Patrici89225734 Pay for it by not subsidising private schools. Eton: actual cost per year per student = £120k. Amount subsidised by tax payer per year per student = £70k. Corrupt. £70k x number of private students is 10s of billions, up to £5k per state student. Would make a huge difference!

Starmer, who sends his kids state secondary, says it’s “intolerable to me” that kids in state schools don’t have enough teachers and says has to make “difficult choices” to pay for it (via VAT on private school fees)

@MichelleDuffy33 @BethRigby It is not a loop hole. The law has always been explicit that education should not be the subject of VAT. Shall we put vat on nurseries, universities and tutors? What about sports coaching?

@b_z_p1 @BethRigby They are charities, they provide scholarships and bursaries and let out their grounds to state schools and communities for county and national level sports to practice. Look at our national sports teams and you will see many people trained through private school bursaries

@nash_aaron @BellaWallerstei They have CCF which all pupils participate in for a few years. Many kids at these schools have parents serving overseas board at them and sign up post school or university, plenty get forced bursaries
