@PeterMcCormack Only taxing people eligible to vote makes sense though but generally disagree with setting tax policy based on arbitrary age. We need to stop penalising people based on characteristics they have no control over.

I’d like policies which help young people: - No income tax until 25 - No stamp duty until 25 - No welfare until 25 - No minimum wage ever But also… - No voting until 25

For the first time ever the welfare bill is going to exceed all the revenue raised via income tax. Had we remained on a pre-Covid trend we’d be spending £80-100 billion less on welfare than we currently are. We have to start talking about cuts to welfare in the c.20-30% region.

My assessment. Mark to market is going to be a bitch in this cycle because none of these prices are real. None of them. It happens when the money is completely fake.

This is one of the main reasons everything in the UK is so expensive Instead of allowing free markets to lower prices to meet demand from real wages, successive governments decided to borrow money and subsidise demand to keep prices high - like housing - through welfare instead
RŌNIN@ronin21btc

It’s really weird in the UK when you just work for a living, as in, you go to work and live off your own wages. Literally everyone I come into contact with seems to get some form of state support.

This is really all we need to know. The clock is ticking, and the window of opportunity to stop this train from hitting a brick wall is almost closed. Once we pass mid-April, we’re looking at a total catastrophe. #oott #iran

After showing how the UK is drifting towards Communist Cuba-style wage compression, I now want to show you how our money is trending in a Zimbabwean direction. Not only is your purchasing power being destroyed via taxation, but it's also being eroded through the debasement of the British pound. You will never outrun rising taxes and the money printer. Never.

The UK is slowly becoming like Communist Cuba. Wage compression is a serious issue in the UK. For many decades, Cuba operated under a strictly egalitarian wage system where most government employees earned roughly the same amount regardless of their profession or performance. Full time minimum wage for a 40-hour week is now £26,400 a year. For comparison, a band 5 hospital nurse earns £32,073 and a newly qualified teacher earns £32,916. The effects of this wage compression is further exacerbated by punitive taxes imposed by the state, where anything earned after £50,270 is taxed at almost 50% when you take into account NI and Student Loan. You have a bizarre scenario where someone earning minimum wage in Carlisle or Aberdeen has similar levels of disposable income to someone earning a top 20% salary in London. We are starting to see the cracks of this broken system with NHS Doctors striking over pay. In real-terms their pay and standard of living has been decimated. I do wonder whether many are starting to question whether it's still worth becoming a professional in the UK, given how warped the incentive structures have become. I'll end this by leaving you with a rather telling image.

.@KathyHochul and @ZohranKMamdani should be shitting bricks right about now! Alliance Bernstein has completed their exodus from Manhattan to Nashville. They decided employee ‘quality of living’, cost of living, taxes, crime and so many other issues that makes it difficult to do business in New York just isn’t worth it anymore. Without high-values businesses to help support the Socialist economy in and around NYC, New York is going to suffer. Keep it up Kathy Hochul and @NYCMayor … keep pushing out your tax base and see what happens!

@doobeedoo2 @Jkylebass * the further out you go you see less demand from traders to buy the future contract (not necessarily less demand to buy the oil)

@doobeedoo2 @Jkylebass Uncertainty grows the further out you go so see less demand. Far-dated oil futures are mostly traded by specialists (generalists stick to the front-month). Backwardation will narrow and pull the whole curve higher as the market rebalances.

Global markets are vastly underestimating the severity of what’s unfolding. It’s worth considering how the economies of Europe and Asia will cope with imminent shortages of food, fuel, and medicine. Brent crude futures seem to be pricing in a quick return to normalcy.

Your mind is clearly blown because you have no idea what you’re talking about. Let’s just take gas. All of it comes by pipeline into the UK and is used in the UK. Oil is a bit more complicated but I’ll let you grapple with the facts about gas before moving on to that. Let me know if you have any questions about gas. Happy to help.
Zoe Gardner@ZoeJardiniere

It is blowing my mind how many people don’t seem able to grasp that oil & gas in the North Sea is not “ours” but was sold off to private companies who will trade it on the international market like any other fuel. We don’t get any kind of privileged access to this fuel.
