@j5dyer @TrueNorthStr0ng @sarobertsonca 3-4% I looked it up, after they pay the staff, rent, insurance, utilities etc they only have 3-4% left over. This is a terrible net margin, the government is not going to run a better buisnes and definately not going to get the costs down. This will just be millions wasted.

@robertincalgary @TrueNorthStr0ng @sarobertsonca Bud you're conflating terms and it signals to me you don't know what you're talking about. Rest of world grocery margin across [all] products is roughly 2-3% (it's not inherent in the grocery business model to be profitable, nor should it be). Canada's grocers sit at 5-7% margin.

Doug Ford on city-run grocery stores: "This is the craziest idea I've ever heard... the Costcos, the Walmarts, the Loblaws, they make 2-3%... it's crazy. That's socialism."

@j5dyer @TrueNorthStr0ng @sarobertsonca Yes but that is not the profit. The profit is 3-4% and that would be all the government store would be able to discount unless they subsidize it with tax revenue (which they do not have a surplus of) and only if they run it as efficiently which they will not.

I stopped watching the new construction space around 2016-2017 when it became a full blown speculative clusterfuck. I just got an email about a 367 sq.ft. pre-con condo in Niagara for $299k targeting investors. There’s still a lot of shit in the pipes. Don’t get fooled.

If the road conditions, your vehicle, your driving experience or skill level require you to drive at half the posted speed limit in order to feel safe, you shouldn’t be operating the vehicle. You’re the hazard; get off the road.

@egolesslife @BrianMason23847 Today in 10 mins of driving I saw more than a dozen vehicles in the ditch or in accidents. The problem is we give away licenses to people who should not drive.

@BrianMason23847 That same Kenney removed the cap off insurance rate increases. Get your lips off the conservatives asses. Albertans are much worse off because of them. We are paying more than double for insurance because of them.

What happens when the province cuts the gas tax? The oil companies raise prices and pocket the difference. In April 2022, Jason Kenney eliminated the provincial gas tax of 13c/l. It cost the province $130m and drove up the deficit. Gas prices fell initially. But….

@j5dyer @TrueNorthStr0ng @sarobertsonca Loblaws Net earning was just under 4% last year you are looking at gross earnings. Which is before they pay staff, rent, insurance, ETC. The government could drop GST and PST and save you 3-4 times what the government grocery would if it could manage to be decent.

@TrueNorthStr0ng @sarobertsonca This. The 2-3% ref is rest of world - in Canada, the lowest margin maker is Costco at ~5% while ALL OTHERS are higher so literally 3x what he refs. City run grocery would REVEAL the margin CAN BE 2-3% which would bottom anchor the Canadian sector and fuck his lobby friends.

OMG, how does Pierre Poilievre still not get economics in Canada? 😂 He's railing about housing, groceries & cost of living like it's all one big mystery. Meanwhile corporations jack up prices and pad record profit margins while Canadians quietly pay up every day, no pushback, just complacency. Our whistleblower laws are so weak they basically punish the people trying to call it out. Mark Carney? Told y'all 18 months ago, the guy's charisma is next-level. He's built for this. Hilarious how smooth he responds. Hard not to like him. 🇨🇦

@DevinDVote Spending more money and adding more regulations. Address the real problem and stop handing out licenses to people who can not drive. Cars, trucks, semis if you can not drive take a cab or a bus.

@CanadianModera1 The Canadian dollar has no purchasing power left, just go to any grocery store. No trade deal with the USA which is 86% of Albertas trade and the provinces block Alberta industries. There is no Value for Alberta to stay in Canada anymore.

AB’s "independence" means losing trade deals, a stable dollar, and federal backing. Expect a mass exodus as corporations & professionals flee the chaos—and yes, the Oilers & Flames will quickly follow the money out.

@MelissaLMRogers You forgot the $USD to $CAD conversion. For example, $300K USD = $415K CAD. Also forgot the added cost of health insurance which begins around $1,300 CAD per month for family coverage. The overall cost is much higher when you decide to tell the whole story.

@rufflife222 @RightFocused @MelissaLMRogers @gsmukowich I have no interest in living in America. Or even going there. Last time I went to America, I lost a tire and rim on their pot hole filled highway and my friend was robbed in the line of McDonald’s.
