Britain didn't conquer India. A company with shareholders did.
The East India Company launched in 1600 with 6 clerks and a spice trading license. Two centuries later it commanded the largest private army on earth, ran its own navy, collected taxes across an entire subcontinent, and governed 200 million people, from a London office with 159 staff.
The part that should make you stop scrolling: 96% of that army were Indian soldiers. Indians were handed British uniforms, British weapons, and British orders, and used to conquer their own country for a corporation's profit margin. When drought hit Bengal in 1770 and famine began spreading, the Company banned local grain trading, continued exporting food for profit, and raised taxes while people were starving. 💀
An estimated 10 million people died. That same year the Company recorded its highest profits. It didn't fall because of the famine. It didn't fall because of the deaths. It fell in 1858 because it ran out of money and had to beg Parliament for a bailout. No trial. No reckoning. Just a closed ledger.

In Marathi it is called ‘Mridgandha’. Now you have same information in 3 languages. Now, some new useless information for the good folks on X. In rural Maharashtra, people call the first rains ‘Vāsāchā Pāus’, because the earth gives out a fragrance. Pu.La. Deshpande famously said that if that fragrance could be packed in a small bottle he would never use any other perfume.

This was told to me by a 65yo gardener. The smell of rain has a name and it’s called “saundhi khushboo” in Hindi. And “petrichor” in English. It comes from oils released by plants and a compound made by soil bacteria. When rain hits dry ground, it spreads into the air and that’s what you’re actually smelling. Completely useless in daily life. But once you know it, you’ll notice it every single time it rains.

I work for tech industry and i can assure you, if you see word “AI” being used in a sarkari setup. You can safely assume it is a scam.
We in tech are struggling for substantial use cases of AI in real world for not very complicated things. You actually create a pain in the ass for the users when you try to fix anything with AI which is not broken already.
Some of us sold that damn voice bots to network operators and banks as a replacement to customer service, be honest and tell me have you seen a more irritating innovation than that ever.?

Its interesting that O2 and H2 are very LIGHT in nature but when they form H20 they become heavy and it constituents 70 percent of the body.

I am so happy to hear that you agree that for many movies the subtitles are disappointing.
Basically, there are subtitling agencies. So typically these agencies do it. I suppose they get it done by the cheapest available resources. Many times the resources are good and the process is good (meaning there are editors and quality checkers).
The trouble occurs when Marathi people who are good in English subtitle in English. They are very familiar with the Marathi idiom but may not be able to translate it well into English. Marathi is very tricky in that respect.
I feel they should get the subtitles reviewed by Linguists like me - so that gross errors are corrected and the subtitling quality is improved.

The subtitles were disappointing, specially of the songs.
Many times translators have to compromise. Golden words when translated come out as silver. But in this case, many times, they came out as bronze.
Earlier, I used to beg on X, people let me have a final look at subtitles...and correct any gross errors. But then no one listens. One director did promise to think about it. But I think he was being polite.
Translating songs (specially Marathi) is very tough. Actually, I myself will fail miserably. However, I can spot poor translations.
I think I can call this the Native Speaker Block. Native speakers will understand the English translation -- but not others.
Aaila will probably be translated in 10 different ways in 10 different films, and possibly several ways in the same film. (No, not in this film.) Native speakers will understand the translation. But non-native speakers might struggle with the translation.

Watched the Marathi film #Tighi today. Not a film chasing plot twists, but one that quietly peels back layers of memory, resentment and love between a mother and her daughters. Marathi is not my first language but the subtitles definitely help esp in songs :)
