@Slipcatch This is a simplification sure but Gazza, SFM and Gelant will always first try their hand at breaking through a gap (Gelant least of them, but his passing is too much 50/50) than passing into the gap for another player. Manie only took the gap himself when it was sure thing.

@Slipcatch The coaching cracks was papered over by some Manie-magic for a while. With him gone we are reliant on individual magic from Gazza, SFM and Gelant. Manie’s ability to put others into space was sublime. The current magic makers think to create magic via their skills not passing

The Stormers outcomes in the 22m Red Zone (attack), to drop kick or to pick and drive or to spread the ball wider or for Gaza to make a call like vs the Bulls at Loftus? Sacha was not the problem. This Stormers problem has a written history now. This problem is becoming a coaching problem. What is the FACTS about the Stormers in the Red Zone this season: The Stormers Finishing Ratio in the Red Zone is on average 10x entries at 2.63 (in the URC), that is giving them 25.8 points/game. (Overall it is 10x entries at 2.62, so not much difference.) What does this say about the Stormers URC prospects? I am not sure that is enough vs Glasgow or Leinster, those teams allows you to score 14.5 pts and 20.4 pts respectively, total points for ALL your entries combined (defense). I am expecting Leinster to improve a bit. The next part is very painful to admit, the Stormers attack is very ONE dimensional in the 22m Area. How many hold ups on the line & failed lineouts/mauls were there this season. The 1st game vs the Sharks in Cape Town as a prime example. We had 11x entries at 1.73 pts/entry. It got worse at the Shark Tank it was 9x entries at 1.67 pts/entry. But then it got even worse at Ellispark we had 10x entries again but only 1.00 pt/entry. Versus the Bulls Gaza scored a brilliant try because he has a rugby brain, now he gets hided away on the wing, so his midfield IQ has been missing. Remember the brilliant try Gaza scored vs the All Blacks in Wellington last year, just in case you think the Bulls try was a vloek. Go and have a look at the Springboks vs All Blacks 2024 5x tries they scored, all the tries came from a lineout in the 22m Red Zone but how clever the Boks worked it.

I really did think that the Trumpistas would turn out to be the stupidest phenomenon any of us have witnessed, and this has proved 1000 percent accurate. To be sure, not a top level prognostication, and shared with many. But dead on nonetheless.

@Slipcatch He is looking so good. Compared to the Stormers lineout that runs between 70 and 80% is just not good enough. Set plays from Lineouts and Scrums are easy places to force overlaps and Stormers fail at that. Storm has never really replaced Bongi since he left. Boks surety.

When our teams lose, we sometimes ignore the individual brilliance and work rates. He played 80 minutes and the Bulls operated a 90% lineout!! Johan Grobbelaar

@MaxduPreez My family is proud that we have the first insurance fraudster in SA. He ran the veepos at Saldanha and when the brits invaded and burned his house down he claimed exuberantly. When he saw them on the horizon again a few years later he burned the house down himself to claim again

@GHammers13 @PlanetRugby South African referee quality is at a low point the last few years. We have almost no good refs and when Amy Barret Theron, as super pedantic as she can be, is seen as your best ref you clearly need to improve. Improve this and then we can moan about other refa

@PlanetRugby @jaredwright17 Yeah nah, I was ok with this one. I think this not being a try is due to lack of patience and some good sense in the Stormers team. The real issue was the yellow card that should have been a clear penalty try. But northern hemindont blow that easily so can be expected

@Slipcatch Its called the Beauden Barret Paradox. SFM is the best rugby player in the team but not necessarily the best flyhalf.

Erasmus put Impact Players from the bench on the Rugby World Map. |ONLY won TWO World Cups with it, so it has it limits| (sarcastic font) Listening to Rugby Podcasts, not everyone likes it, especially ex-international players, ego and that kind of thing plays a role. Which is normal and change is a bastard, not everyone likes it. Sacha FM last night 29 minutes. 2x Try Assists, Roos and Khan tries. The Definition of an IMPACT player. Note: I am not saying he must play from bench every game. Lucky Dobbo gets paid the big bucks, his call, but shit it worked. What helped further, Jurie Matthee accurate boot kept us in the game over the 1st 51 minutes. Those two 3 pointers was very needed and normally after 80 minutes you ignore those things but it was critical at a stage we were fighting territory and just to stay in the game.

@CaptSpringbok The thing is. Boxing is about undividual swagger and performance, half in the ring, half in public. Rugby is absolutely the opposite of this. The team is more important than the player. It eschews that braggart egos of other sports. Not sure Hearn understands that.

Eddie Hearn couldn’t care less about what a ruck entry looks like or how many times Pollock gets it right. He sees star power, and that’s the point. You can be the best rugby player in the world and still not be marketable. Pollock, on the other hand, ticks both boxes. He’s a very good player, but more importantly, he’s young, charismatic, looks the part, and knows how to command attention. His marketability is huge. Hearn isn’t interested in the technical purists’ view, he’s backing something he believes can grow, and if it works, it opens the door for others too.

During the first airing of my Star Trek series where a kiss was objectionable; many southern stations pulled the episode & condemned the show. Using today’s vernacular it would absolutely be called“woke DEI crap”because it went against “norms” of society for its time. Not a lot seems to have changed.🤷🏼😑

@CaptSpringbok Stormers now beating Bulls well. Stormers have been the better side on the day but Marius the ref trying to out “main-character energy” everyone else on the field will give Bulls supporters plenty of reasons to moan about (he is equally shit both ways). Bulls needs defense coach

This idea that both sides of the scrum should progress is wild. The one side can progress but as long as the other doesn’t retreat its not pulling back or wheeling. Not sure this ref understands scrums at all. #BULvSTO
