I'm actually pretty open-minded about the anti-data-center populism. From everything I've seen from people working on this, reducing industrial-scale hardware availability seems to be both the most practical, and most non-dystopian / non-invasive way to lengthen AGI timelines. So if the movement that makes that happen starts out with anti-data-center populism, that seems fine? Of course you have to do things other than going after data centers located in populated areas to really make a dent on AGI timelines (my intuition is that 10-100x compute reduction is feasible in a "static" model of the world, and 100-10000x if you compare to a counterfactual that includes future chip design progress; those numbers *would* make a dent), but there is a first step for everything.

Imagine a former Mayor of Johannesburg embarrassing himself online, a Mayor that doesn't understand how Bilateral trade works. Just this year alone, a South African firm secured a R280-million contract for a high-voltage line from the Shiroro dam to Abuja. Last December, six South African firms were shortlisted for a R2.6B project in Port Harcourt and Nigerian companies were in that tender o, did we cry online? But today a Nigerian firm wins one contract in SA for a measly R140M and yall are having a meltdown. Inferiority complex is keeling you people.

In the 9 years I’ve been on crypto twitter I have never seen so many negative posts on my timeline. Anyone claiming that Bitcoin is dead or dying has a fundamental misunderstanding of Bitcoin. You can honestly extrapolate that thought to crypto as a whole. It can’t be killed. And what can’t be killed is destined to innovate and grow. And as much as they try to institutionalize it, it can’t be controlled by any single entity. Bitcoin isn’t just digital gold. It’s decentralized, trustless financial freedom.

People want to box and categorize things. So they associate the unfamiliar with something familiar. But with something entirely new, like Bitcoin this obviously doesn't work. This is why we keep pushing to build functional, productive bitcoin circular economies. Particularly in areas undeserved by traditional finance. That demonstration of utility and real-world problem solving is valuable to the extent that it does (sometimes) help to break that pattern of cognitive assimilation. It's not guaranteed, off course, but sometimes this practical demonstration does give a person pause to consider the reality that Bitcoin can do things nothing else can.

There are countless large accounts comparing Bitcoin to a tech stock Bitcoin is not a tech stock. It had zero monetary value in its first era. And people still worked on it. What the haters don’t get: this is about protecting human liberty in the digital age They will learn :)

@RediTlhabi Redi is sad that her Iranian funders eft's have stopped. It's a pity would hope she might feel guilty about something. Her life, and adopted struggle as a journalist comes to its zenith. Screaming and saying what about Palestine while people die in the streets. Thanks Redi

Same tactics, all over the world. They never stop. Journalists, academics, artists, doctors; students; everyone gets hounded. We must not give in to this tyranny! Well done to all those writers pulling out of the writers' festival and collapsing it.

Exclusive: pro-Israel campaign seeks removal of Palestinian DJ from WOMADelaide After ruining the Adelaide and Bendigo writers festivals, pro-Israel supporters are now targeting WOMADelaide’s inclusion of Sama’ Abdulhadi ‘Deepcut has seen two emails automatically composed on mass email platform, Activism Mailer, regarding the March 7 performance of Sama’ Abdulhadi, a prominent Palestinian DJ, at WOMADelaide. One email is directed to WOMADelaide organisers as well as Andrea Michaels, South Australia’s arts minister, and councillors at the City of Adelaide. It “urgently request(s) the removal of Sama Abdulhadi from the 2026 festival line-up. This request is based on her documented history of hateful rhetoric against Israel, Jews, Zionists, and their allies”. The email called Abdulhadi’s presence at WOMADelaide “particularly troubling in light of the recent Bondi Beach Terrorist attack”… But Mashni has been heartened by the “brilliant solidarity” shown by writers and artists with Abdel-Fattah, calling on the arts sector to “rally and defend itself from this relentless onslaught”. “Pro-Israel supporters don’t care that they’re ruining arts festivals. These extremists will stop at nothing to run cover for genocide and ensure no one in this country dares to criticise Israel again.” deepcutnews.com/p/exclusive-pr…
