@OireachtasNews McDowell brought me here. There's a reaction against this "classic" style. It's not well suited to modern capitalism.

@RugbyPass Did you see what the oaf, Snyman, did to Craig Casey? The way he walked away with Casey laid out from the late hit and never even checked on him.

The USA chant in the aftermath was unnecessary. Golf fans over the last 2 decades (maybe more) have continued to lower the bar for what is considered appropriate behavior. No longer do they act like respectful fans of the players and the game.
Too many times, someone feels the need to be heard (later on their dvr most likely) and so they shout some nonsense right after a shot is struck, believing it's funny or clever. It is neither. But it IS uncouth. A lowering of the standards of proper etiquette and decorum.
What happened to Rory yesterday isn't new, but it deserves the same understanding of the moment and respect for what the player has just experienced.
So cheer for your favorites, by all means. But show respect to EVERY competitor in the field. They've earned that much!

@normfinkelstein @ClareDalyMEP Daly was adept at expressing truisms that can make her look like a saint with the simplest editing. That's what most of you folks are reacting to. But there's a whole lot more to the story. What do the Ukrainian people say? What does Putin do? You think he's "rational" like you?

I just learnt that the inimitable Clare Daly @ClareDalyMEP was not reelected to the European Parliament. It's a disappointment--but NOT a defeat. In fact, each "defeat" is a necessary stepping-stone on the road to victory:
"What does the entire history of socialism and of all modern revolutions show us? The first spark of class struggle in Europe, the revolt of the silk weavers in Lyon in 1831, ended with a heavy defeat; the Chartist movement in Britain ended in defeat; the uprising of the Parisian proletariat in the June days of 1848 ended with a crushing defeat; and the Paris commune ended with a terrible defeat. The whole road of socialism – so far as revolutionary struggles are concerned – is paved with nothing but thunderous defeats. Yet, at the same time, history marches inexorably, step by step, toward final victory! Where would we be today without those “defeats,” from which we draw historical experience, understanding, power and idealism? Today, as we advance into the final battle of the proletarian class war, we stand on the foundation of those very defeats; and we cannot do without any of them, because each one contributes to our strength and understanding." (Rosa Luxemburg, "Order Reigns in Berlin")
Two clenched fists (and a rose) to Red Clare!
