In its comprehensive report to the Taoiseach, @NESCIreland have recommended that the Department of Finance undertake "further consideration" of the impact of the trans-border workers' tax relief for remote working. We have the political appetite for reform. Now, we need action.

As An Tánaiste @LeoVaradkar prepares to introduce a new remote working Bill, urgent consideration must be given to the home-working flexibility of ROI cross-border workers. Border communities across Derry, Donegal, Newry, Dundalk, and everywhere in between have it all to gain.

We welcome Minister @simoncoveney in his response that resolving this issue will require a bilateral approach with the UK & Ireland. As the Minister works with Govt colleagues on this issue, we hope that permanent, pragmatic solutions can be brought forward as soon as possible.

Thank you Senator @emer_currie1 for raising our issue with Irish Foreign Affairs Minister @simoncoveney in the Seanad. As Senator Currie says, with restrictions lifting, ROI cross-border workers are facing a damaging "double tax" if the Govt's Covid-19 waiver is lifted.

💻Remote work is here to stay. As employees across RoI are set to be granted a formal right to request home-working, the Government must not forget the thousands of border employees who may miss out. Now is the time to update outdated cross-border tax rules once-and-for-all.

As workplace restrictions ease, the concerns of ROI cross-border workers must be heard. The Govt has supported thousands of employees able to work remotely without facing a 'double tax'. Without action from @Paschald this waiver could now end overnight. rte.ie/news/business/…

In the section entitled "Challenging existing legislation?", the report details our campaign to change outdated ROI tax legislation. Without permanent reform, @MaureenOReilly7 writes that cross-border workers may not have the same flexibility as colleagues in NI post-pandemic.
