@gardenboyduck The sheer number of LDSX who think they're doing A but actually doing B is what makes it so entertaining

My take on LDSX lately is: There are those who follow (or at least try hard) to obey the words of the prophets and Gods laws. Then there are those who try to bend those words and laws to fit the world’s standards, no matter how “kind” they seem. What side are you on?

@BradWitbeck You've gone from "fake news" to "okay there is news, but I don't count them". Now you've opened up a can of worms if you apply this same standard to so many other things, which you won't.

@DapperDanCB Bro, you don't have to double down on stuff like this. TBH Stenhouse and Fawn Brodie are both, without question, NOT contemporary accounts.

Oh, so he actually doesn't know anything about the martyrdom 🤣 That makes more sense. Joseph Smith was murdered by a mob while being held in prison awaiting trial—not while trying to break out. He was killed over his religious beliefs and he is unequivocally a martyr. As for the question of how we can know what kind of angel visited Joseph Smith? Well, that's what the Book of Mormon is all about. It contains the testimony of 3 witnesses who also saw the plates and heard the voice of God testify to them of the truth of the translation of the record. It is a volume of holy scripture that testifies of the divinity of Christ, and attests the reality of His resurrection. It doesn't replace the Bible, but stands as an accompanying witness. Joseph Smith was a prophet of God.

@BradWitbeck lol, you think someone has to be present at a particular event or read a specific document for it to count as a cotemporary account.

This wasn't a backpedal—you said "multiple contemporary accounts" I outlined there is only one contemporary record, and it doesn't even support your contention that Joseph "ordered the Nauvoo Legion to break him out." Do you think Fawn Brodie was present at the Martyrdom? Or TBH Stenhouse? And bro, if you have to put words I didn't say in quotes, it's really easy to tell you're losing the argument.

Where are you getting "multiple contemporary accounts" from? This comes from Fawn Brodie's, No Man Knows My History, and she relies on TBH Stenhouse (who wasn't present) and his writings from over 30 years later after leaving the Church, and a recollection from Allen Joseph Stout, one of the Nauvoo Legion, who had also been a bodyguard of Joseph, who also wasn't with him when the letter was allegedly written. Joseph DID write a letter to Emma that gave the opposite instruction, to keep the Nauvoo Legion home right before. I think it's highly unlikely Dunham just ignored a plea from the Prophet to come save him. Oh, and it's actually important to note that even Stout's recollection doesn't say he was telling the Nauvoo Legion to come "break him out," but that he asked them to come "reserve him from being killed." So even if that was the case, it wasn't Joseph "ordering a breakout" but asking the Nauvoo Legion to fill the role the Carthage Grays betrayed.

@BradWitbeck Did you know that Hoffman got the idea to create the forgery from multiple contemporary accounts, one specifically mentioning the letter to Dunham?

This is actually false. Did you know the letter allegedly from Joseph to Jonathan Dunham where he ordered the Nauvoo Legion to break him out is a actually a Hoffman forgery? And yeah, you can stop justifying murder. They clearly hated him for his religion, and it doesn't matter if other things were compounded into it, that doesn't make him less of a martyr.

Have you ever paid attention to the symbols and hand gestures of the three figures in this section of Facsimile 2? Why would ancient Egyptians use all these Masonic ritual signs? They must have had a time machine.

@stackerco The funniest part about this is how many apologists try and deny the Caractors document contains writings off the gold plates. Secondly, this is not the document that was shown to Charles Anthon.

@martianwyrdlord With due respect to Ms. Ridley, (I haven't seen this cinema), the *original* meaning of Mary Sue was a fan writing fan fiction and placing herself in the "lead role." No doubt the meaning has changed, but unless Ms. Ridley wrote, directed, and starred in this work: not M.S. 🙂

Naturally she fails to understand the meaning of Mary Sue entirely. It does not mean "girl character", it means "perfect character who can do anything with no limitations". Luke Skywalker was a half decent pilot with a degree of natural ability with the Force that takes him years to develop. He isn't particularly good at anything else. From the very beginning of The Force Awakens, Rey is an expert pilot, a master martial artist, a top spaceship mechanic, and within five seconds of finding out that the Force exists ascends to the level of Jedi Master. She's also hot, smart, brave, and all the other good things. She needs neither assistance nor instruction. Character growth is unnecessary and impossible. Her only struggle is getting people to admit her natural perfect awesomeness. And even this comes easily to her.

Daisy Ridley says calling her character in Star Wars A Mary Sue is sexist: “The Mary Sue thing in itself is sexist because it’s the name of a woman. Everyone was saying that Luke had the exact same [capabilities]. I think Rey is incredible vulnerable, and nothing she’s doing is for the greater good. She’s just doing what she thinks is the right thing. And she doesn’t want to do some of it, but she feels compelled to do it. So for me, I was just confused.” Is this why modern Star Wars fails because they can't understand criticism?

Wow, LDSX has completely lost the plot. It’s honestly depressing to be associated with people attacking him, his wife, or the Church over a genuinely uplifting story.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints@Ch_JesusChrist

“I grew up in Arizona, served a mission in Mexico, and went to college thinking I had a pretty clear path for my life. Then I met my now wife Victoria, and everything changed in the best way. “She always knew she wanted to be a doctor. Pediatric neurology isn’t an easy road, but it’s who she is, compassionate, steady, brilliant, and drawn to help kids and families through the hardest things life hands them. When she got into med school in California, we packed up and moved. “Stepping into her dream together was an easy choice. I wanted to support her the way she has always supported me. And honestly, watching her work and sacrifice and love people like she does has strengthened my faith more than anything else. “My path hasn’t been as clear. I’ve tried different directions, learned a lot, prayed a lot. Some days I still feel like I’m figuring it out. But I do know that God doesn’t measure timelines. He measures love, humility, and the way we show up for each other. “Supporting her doesn’t shrink my purpose—it expands it. Our callings from God can look different, and that’s beautiful. I’m building my future too, but I’m grateful that right now, part of my purpose is cheering for the person I love most as she steps into hers. “There’s not one 'right way' to build a family or a future. For us, this is ours. And it’s sacred.” — Nate
