The Telegram messenger app was supposedly blocked in Russia on April 1, but I have seen no change whatsoever in the activities of the many Russian channels that I follow. On his channel, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov explains why: 1/

Following close on the heels of losing their Starlinks, the Russians are stunned and baffled at the abrupt throttling of the Telegram messenger app by the State, since it is used for a wide variety of critical military communications. Blogger “Battle Unit” expresses it best: 1/

The Denmark detail is the one that should stop people cold. NATO allies had to genuinely war-game shooting down American planes. Some of their military leaders still haven't fully processed having run that exercise. The most popular app in the country identified American products to avoid buying. And now Trump is demanding - his word - those same allies solve the Strait of Hormuz problem his war created. NATO invoked Article 5 once. For us. Their soldiers died in Afghanistan. He told reporters they stayed "a little back." Their governments remember that. They've drawn the conclusions and they aren't reversible.

Trump has insulted and tariffed his European allies, persuaded Denmark to prepare for a US invasion and, by pressuring Ukraine and not Russia, encouraged Putin to keep fighting. All of which he has forgotten. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/03/…

Here is criticism NATO deserves. Iran is doing more to illegally block the Strait of Hormuz than NATO is doing to legally intercept stateless Russian shadow fleet tankers in the Gulf of Finland, the Fehman and Langelands Straits, and the English Channel.

It is extremely important (first of all for NATO countries) to understand how Russia fights right now and how they will fight in the future (spoiler alert: without so-called «infiltration»). @RALee85 and I published another article about Russian experiments with «drone line» tactics. I am and always have been a fan of France. I started studying French in 4th grade. I minored in French in college and love travelling there. But France today is a problem. France is guided by “France first.” Unlike “America First” which strengthens and benefits the world militarily, commercially and morally, France First sells out to the highest bidder. It’s the underbelly of French historical collaboration with Nazi Germany. It undermines the West, and Ukraine, as France cuts deals with Russian and is a top buyer of Russian natural gas. It’s why they work with the IRGC in Iran so French ships can transit the Straits of Hormuz. There’s no one they won’t cut a commercial deal with. Their immigration policies have turned their country substantially over to Muslims whose motives and influence are even more problematic. All that is bad enough. But now they won’t give the US overflight rights as we fight in Iran. We don’t want their troops or their ships. We want and should have overflight rights. France is a historical headache for the US and much of the west. French governments relish playing that role. France is only sometimes an ally. France is a real problem for the West.

Sorry, Ari. I just saw your response. I think it is hilarious that rather than actually respond to my point, you simply opted to double down on your practice of carrying water for Trump like a modern-day Gunga Din. I think it's great that NATO is spending more on defense. I think Trump can be commended for encouraging it (though the turd-polishing of some folks on this front is often embarrassing. He primarily didn't do it to "save" NATO or even to make it stronger). But all of this is irrelevant to the point you dodged. If you think Trump has handled the transatlantic alliance well since being elected to his second term, say so. Own it. Don't deflect. But if that is your position, that's pure idiocy or dishonest spin. Our NATO allies *should* step up. It would be in their interest. But Trump has made the politics of that near-impossible by threatening Greenland, claiming that our allies didn't really fight in Afghanistan and Iraq, (not Vance's Munich performance, dicking around with Ukraine) etc. Even the far right (outside of Hungary) parties hate Trump now. Then, when Trump launched this war on Iran he said he didn't need any of their help because we already won. Now, he's asking for help, but he can't concede error or even ask nicely. So he implies their all cowards who need to muster "delayed courage." Defend that Ari. Hell simply acknowledge it.
Ari Fleischer@AriFleischer

Sorry Jonah. I actually sat in the room for the first half of the movie. For 24 polite years, Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama diplomatically asked NATO members to increase defense spending. For 24 years, it was one excuse after another, all focused in Western Europe on how they wish they could spend more, but their social welfare spending priorities wouldn’t let them. In other words, you the US will spend on defense and protect us. Along comes rude Donald Trump. Finally, someone made clear that if Europe kept freeloading the US was done. It took a bill in the China shop to move Europe. Diplomacy failed. Trump prevailed. That’s reality whether you or I like it. NATO self-withered after 75 years. If Spain, England, Italy and France won’t spend what’s necessary to have a real military, it’s time for something new.

@McFaul You don't seem to understand, at all, the damage Trump has done and is doing. You still think "it is not thaaaat bad" to threaten allies with invasion. It is. And using NATO bases in an offensive war is no right that you people have in any form. Blame your own filthy regime.

Even if you did not support Trumps decision to launch of war of choice against Iran (like me), restricting the use of US airbases in NATO countries imprudently damages NATO unity. Yes, Trumps threats to invade/annex NATO countries does too. But 2 wrongs don’t make a right.

@TimTammer2 @Mylovanov You need far better command of information literacy if you think Ukraine executes Russian povs. There is literally no evidence of it, but a massive number of video materials of Russian field executions.
