"Tribeca is more than a single stalled project. It’s a warning about what happens when cities are redesigned to serve global capital before local life." Save CQ vice-chair Dr. Agustina Martire writes in today's Irish News.

@News_Letter “It’s what I do” he says. 50,000 folk will go up Kilimanjaro this year too apparently. And another point, given he has received sponsorship, does it not need to be registered as an interest in House of Commons (which it currently has not)?

@JP_Biz You say ‘It is estimated that the championship will boost economy by more than £200m” But Hallam actually say: Real economic activity: £63m in direct revenue, the rest is AEV ie not an actual financial impact. It’s a marketing metric, not an economic one.

You could set up some sort of regulator (OfRes?) to decide how much a bowl of pasta should cost but that sort of arrangement probably has limited support.

@Garbhan_D How was the development of the campus in Belfast “unsanctioned”?

This is a university currently £170m in debt. Debt incurred by building an unsanctioned white elephant in Belfast instead of a planned expansion in Derry that wouldn’t have bankrupted both UU and the entire NI HE sector. Just who is overseeing UU and its overspending?
Garrett Hargan@GAHargan

Ulster University urged to justify its ‘staggering’ £61k trip to US Ulster University spent more than £61,000 on a trip to Washington, DC for St Patrick’s Day, prompting questions as to whether the institution has a “limitless” marketing budget. belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/education…

@Saraita101 Constantly? British Opens: 1951, 2019 and this year… apparently that’s constant. The cultural event from which you are at pains to distance yourself, is however an annual event. Perhaps there is a connection?

@JonBurrowsNI The “One Bad Apple” argument eh - even though another bonfire threatens electricity supply to the capital’s two main hospitals & hundreds of others belch toxins, place undue stress on fire services, cost public purse directly and indirectly and somehow this all must be tolerated.

@MatthewOToole2 Presumably any local rate payer could sue the council in question for being placed at increased risk when council knew the potential extent of that risk.

Very few things surprise me any more in NI, but this is genuinely shocking. In a few days kids will be at a bonfire next to a pile of asbestos and both the council and Environment Agency have failed to deal with it decisively. What is going on in this place?
The SDLP@SDLPlive

It is crazy that a bonfire is set to go ahead later this week on a site containing asbestos. People have a right to cultural expression, but protecting the safety of children is paramount. Environment Minister Andrew Muir must urgently intervene for the sake of people's health.
