Sadly the mayor’s proposals aren’t to raise taxes SOLELY on wealthy landowners it affects all properties including the many working class Black NYers that live in my district, so I’m actually listening to MY constituents. However, I’ve always supported a mansion tax.

Just as the city can shut down unsanitary restaurants, the mayor has said, landlords that "repeatedly put New Yorkers at risk will not be allowed to operate in New York City — with no exceptions." In reality, the process is resource-intensive and legally fraught. to.pbs.org/3O2pyhW

Homelessness among Los Angeles County students has surged. Like we wrote a few weeks ago, rent control protects young people against sky-high rents and homelessness. latimes.com/california/sto…

A 7-month-old baby was shot and killed today in Brooklyn — an unthinkable loss. I’m grateful for the hospital staff who did everything they could and the NYPD for their ongoing work to find those responsible for this heinous murder. We cannot accept this violence as normal. Too many families have suffered this pain.

If your entire budget analysis is “tax the rich,” you may not actually understand the budget. That’s exactly why we need a more transparent process and a more informed public debate. I’ve always supported progressive taxation btw, but that can’t be the only thing we discuss.
