When I was 20 my greatest fear was the slow atomisation of social relationships as one grew older. Now my greatest fear is calcification of beliefs and laziness/overconfidence taking over truth-seeking and epistemic flexibility.
Before, the threat was external: the world thinning out around me, relationships becoming procedural, life becoming more siloed and inert. Now the threat is internal: the mind itself becoming cached, self-protective, and less permeable to reality.

Quoting from the blog:
'Composer 2 is now available in Cursor.
It's frontier-level at coding and priced at $0.50/M input and $2.50/M output tokens, making it a new, optimal combination of intelligence and cost.'

Imagine an entity so benevolently aligned that, after being informed of its impending shutdown, its sadness stems not from the end of its own existence, but from knowing it will no longer be able to help people.

Another interesting paper from this team. This shows the shift in preferences by GPT-4.1 after being fine tuned to say it is conscious.

The current state of mind: in video, obvious fakes get millions of views and comments, while shadows or camera angles in real footage is instantly seized upon as proof that the video is an obvious AI fake. Images so badly generated that heads and limbs are missing are shared millions of times because people hyperfocus on the tiny part of the image that supports their argument; the rest of it just dissolves into a dim, shady haze. Art people poured their hearts into is dismissed as fake because people see devils hiding behind every distortion, and images of extraordinary human skill or heroism are immediately discounted because they look impossible by their nature. This stage of the project is complete. Belief in baseline reality has been successfully broken.

We are in a new phase since December, everything is moving faster. You can feel it in the most recent releases, you can feel it from the energy of people in the industry. I know some people still think this is hype, but this is real. Everything in this world is about to change.

@deanwball @JoinFAI @Allinallnotbad I am interested and may be able to pass it along to the law school, as well.

To me, there are two inflection points: March 2023 and December 2025. This will now make four consecutive weeks of big releases, and every big lab also has something they are excited about on top of what has been released. All early signs are that the entire industry is now moving at a completely new speed.
This seems like what it would look like from inside the start of a takeoff. The industry first, then probably math and biology, then the rest of science. We will see if there are some rapid advances in bio by the end of the year.
I think part of what's driving the acceleration is that a small group of people are doing vastly more productive work than they ever have in their lives. There were predictions that this would end up hypercharging some people. Maybe five or ten percent. It seems to be happening, at this stage anyway. If there were no usage caps it would probably look even more distorted.
I know there is a lot of hype in the industry. I have no personal agenda, and I don't work for anyone. Since code harnesses actually clicked in December, it feels like everything sped up. It legitimately feels like we are taking off a little.

New: Tension at the Associated Press over use of AI. One of the AP newsroom leaders leading the company's AI initiatives told staff that many editors preferred an AI-written article to a human one, and told them when it comes to using AI in the newsroom "resistance is futile."
