@AMDG_Derek Catholic here, I don’t think this devotion should be encouraged. Primarily because the alleged words of Mary “Whosoever dies wearing this scapular shall not suffer eternal fire” are on their face untrue. Which is why when question it people will add a bunch of requirements to it.

@poperespecter1 You are doing the Lord’s work. As for myself, my MO whenever I see a headline “Pope Francis XYZ” or “Vatican XYZ” is to disbelieve it until it have been established by two or three credible (not anonymous) witnesses. It’s saved me a lot of worrying over fake news

This headline is from May 2024. The news from Saturday was fake. No changes were made to seminary admissions.

The Greek "Metanoia" literally means a change of mind or heart, a transformation of one's inner being. It conveys repentance as an internal, spiritual turning away from sin and turning toward God in faith. The Latin word "Poenitentia" was rendered as "penance" in the sense of outward acts of contrition, confession, and works prescribed by the Church. This translation shifted the focus from an internal change of heart to external rituals and actions. For over 1,000 years, the Roman Catholic Church built false doctrines on a mistranslation. As Greek faded, the Church relied on the Latin Vulgate, unknowingly drifting from the truth. Withholding access to the original Scriptures and exploiting illiteracy, the Church created a system with little accountability. This prideful gatekeeping allowed errors to persist unchecked, despite Scripture's call for leader accountability. Only when Scripture became widely accessible during the Reformation were these doctrines refuted.

Indulgences are the forgiveness of punishment, not forgiveness of sins. The Bible explicitly affirms temporal punishment for sins both before and after death. Protestants do affirm for sins before death (unless you think all criminals who convert should be let out jail) and Luke 12:47-48 explicitly affirms it for after death “The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows.” So you’re saying Luke 12:47-48 is “absurd?”

@Wayward_Thinker @DF_UniatePapist The idea that we will be “temporally punished” for sins after death is absurd and tramples underfoot the gospel of Jesus Christ. When you allow people to pay to absolve the debt created by sin, you are allowing people to pay for the forgiveness of sin…

@poperespecter1 I just had my first child and it made me realize that babies live entirely by faith. There is a reason why Jesus used children as a model of faith.
