@matxpp Hear, hear --- I'm a developer of Microscope-Cockpit (GUI to control microscopes) and use all of those: MDI, restoring window position, and window icons

I wanted to say a few things about the importance of applications, Wayland porting, and the joy of discussing Wayland protocol extensions... ;-)

@carandraugNet Good game. Working back from old folks, it seems like more than one deceased actor played the not-deceased Henry Kissinger, e.g. Paul Sorvino - time.com/6201235/paul-s… and Ron Silver - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Silver

@TalleyJLambert I'm only left wondering if the slower version is because of ctypes itself. But this is pretty neat.

@carandraugNet checked again:
after reimplementation, the loading of metadata for a relatively large file (500mb) takes ~5ms after rewrite, and ~28ms with the SDK.
reading the actual file data is not so different

The nd2 package (Nikon NIS elements file reader for python) just got a major internal refactor. v0.6.0 reimplements the outputs of the official SDK in pure python. (No more wrapping of c code)
Speed is improved, and it’s easier to install anywhere now.

@beamsontoast I would guess that if there is internet, it's no longer off the grid and without distractions.

@Maurice_Y_Lee I can already see a microscope refusing to start acquisition because it deems the sample not worthy. With Alexa voice, "Move along, nothing to see here"

Again!
Ok, for the next one I want a generative model that produces STL files for 3D printing from a prompt… ready, steady, go!

We’re pleased to introduce Make-A-Video, our latest in #GenerativeAI research! With just a few words, this state-of-the-art AI system generates high-quality videos from text prompts. Have an idea you want to see? Reply w/ your prompt using #MetaAI and we’ll share more results.

@CiminiLab That works. I've done that some 10-15 years ago with H2B-GFP and H3-GFP. You could "easily" check it with FACS too.
English

#Microscopy Twitter - A collaborator was asking us whether nuclear FP-H2B tot. intensity could be used to == cell cycle phase in the way that DAPI etc can; a search didn't turn up much. My instinct is "not without a bunch of validation", but does anyone know one way or the other?
English

@JLazzariDean @AndrewGYork We once had a Xbox controller (not even the original brand, just a cheap knockoff) which we used to control a microscope. You can control it from Python making calls to winmm.dll (that's Windows Multimedia library so no need to install anything if you're on Windows)
English

Hey microscopy DIY folks: I have a great XYZ stage assembly, but it didn’t come with a joystick. @AndrewGYork and I are going to set up a video game controller to move the stage. Does anyone have suggestions on controllers or packages to read their inputs (C or python)? 🎮🔬
English

@TalleyJLambert @christlet @unruhjay @jnuneziglesias @jytinevez @IAMichaelNelson @SaraMcArdle1 @FijiSc I don't think that's right. The root of broken environments are version incompatibilities. The "something even better" that we need is stability on the packages API.
English

@christlet @unruhjay @jnuneziglesias @jytinevez @IAMichaelNelson @SaraMcArdle1 @FijiSc Yeah, there a ton of those out there (that’s how any of us learned). I get the desire for “something even better”, but ultimately this becomes a “google problem”, not one of content creation

@dgaboriau @DrLachie In those images I see microscopes that look back. Looking down the objective to see an eye looking back at you is stuff of nightmares.

Ricardo is a good friend of mine and is looking for a post-doc to join his new lab in Oxford.
Ricardo A. Fernandes@theRafLab
We are looking for a highly motivated #Postdoc with a background in #Tcells #Immunology #Signaling or #Biochemistry to take on a prestigious 3-year Oxford-BMS Fellowship and find out all about checkpoint inhibition in T cells: tinyurl.com/4hs8tm22 Please RT!

@mycroscopy @focalplane_jcs Yes, @microforum explore has a section for that, see microlist.org/explore/?type=…
English

Is there a calendar with ALL the microscopy and image analysis meetings/courses/conferences together each year? I keep hearing about new events. @focalplane_jcs ? #microscopy #imageanalysis #bioimageanalysis

@bones_giles @ilandavis So, in average, do red headed people have an higher baseline of endorphin? Does that gives any base to the fiery red-headed trope.
English

@ilandavis It's a mutation in melanocortin1 which is also part of the endorphin production complex
