I hear lots of doom and gloom on the Iraq war and the Strait of Hormuz. Lets go straight to the worst case. Assume that it will no longer be possible to export oil out of the Middle East via supertankers. Sure, it is a disaster for the global economy. And all the fiat debt will implode. The world will become more regional, less global, more xenophobic as well. The US/China contest will evaporate. US energy independence and natural gas abundance will be a huge benefit to reshoring manufacturing. Focus on the Western Hemisphere will make much more sense. Russia and Europe may have to find common cause, through diplomacy or war. This will be bad news for Muslim outsiders trying to take over in Europe. China will take a good chunk of Siberia without much of a challenge. China and it's neighbors will have to find common cause. That could be very ugly without the USA to mediate. It is possible that China will turn inward and there won't be a lot of fighting. The Middle East will have to find common cause with Israel. This may be much easier than people think and may even lead to the long overdue reform of Islam. The bloodshed will happen in hard line Islamic areas. The USA is the biggest winner in this. We will have to find common cause with the rest of the Western Hemisphere, particularly Canada and Mexico, both of which are pretty far gone.

@nettermike Stupid, because they get capital gains when you sell and they also get a bump up in property taxes to new levels when you sell. Putting more friction on sales hurts everyone and will reduce the income for the state.
