To all parents that have children with disabilities just like me, how did you feel when you discovered your child has a disability or is at high risk of disability? The feeling, how do you feel. It broke me, even today it, breaks my heart and makes me cry always. Lets talk

Only a year in a developed country, where there is everything, that may help. Once faced with a challenging situation, the doctors easily through in the towel. No thinking outside the box, no listening to parents about child's history, nothing but just a system that backs them.

The most difficult qnd painful thing about having a child with disabilities in the first world, is how they are quick to put child on end of life. The child would have been born in the 3rd world, under very difficult circumstances in hospitals and survived.

In this day and age, with so many people with disabilities, awareness, and campaigns against discrimination of persons with disabilities. Why does it seem like the discrimination is actually growing?

#DisabilityAwareness #ChildrenNeverForget Monday 11 March 2024 I told the learner's at Bains Primary school during my #SchoolsDisabilityTalkProgramme that when they see me out there they must come and talk to me. They must not run away or laugh at anyone with a disability. #ThisIsMyStory I was about to cross the road when I heard little voices "Hello ma'am, hello ma'am" I looked back & saw a group of learners smiling & running to meet me. I stopped to figure out what the excitement was all about. I prepared myself for anything to come because I've learnt that children have an unpredictable behaviour. This behaviour is the results of how they have raised at home, school and the communities they come from. I held my breath with a big smile 🤔 with a little fear wondering what drama I was going to encounter but when they got to me the first thing they did was to remind me that I visited their school to talk about #PWDs I smiled with excitement 😊 and I couldn't believe it that they remembered what I taught them. They all narrated to me what I said that day. This gave give hope❤️ Yes children are tomorrow's leaders if we teach them well. #Dear Parents and teachers always remember that children never forget what we teach them. These amazing children are now alert about #PWDs 👇🏼 ● A child with #Disabilities often spends hours being taught how to interact with others... but why don't we spend time teaching those without disabilities how to interact with them? - Colleen Peterson My vision for my #SchoolsDisabilityTalkProgramme have conversations with learners about #Disability + #PeopleWithDisabilities using #Storytelling method & allowing the learners to ask questions on anything about Disability and they get to share what they have heard about #PWDs #DisabilityTwitter #IamFlawsome

@MenInBlazers How I wish we could see more influential people had time to inspire other people, especially recognising people with disabilities & showing how important they are to our communities.

@Sightsavers One of the best ways to tackle disability issues. If only everyone could just see how amazing people with disabilities are, very special, big hearts. Respect for this initiative

How do parents of children with disabilities cope, when they are told their child with disabilities has no more than 2months to live? What kind of support should the child get, should the parents get? Should the family get?

As much as we appreciate governments effort to address disability issues, we believe it really means nothing if the system is a total package. Assistive devices still out of reach for many people with disabilities. Imagine a prostatic leg more than US$3000 in a govt institute

@ElishaMrG2123 Proud of your sir, it is also clear from those responses that there is need for more awareness and educating people about disabilities. Society still think people with disabilities can't live independently kkķkkk. Keep on keeping on.

Had an interesting, honest and inspiring parent to parent support session with parents of children with disabilities, some going through corrective surgery. Realised our situations & the pain are the same whether rich or poor. Disability issues issues nid grassroots solutions.

@NkomwaTrust It is very true and very sad. We need a multi-disciplined approach to address this challenge. It is not jst the parents fault bt everyone involved that is from the highest offices to the family level. When society blames the already emotionally drained parents it only gets worse

It is indeed true that children with disabilities are hidden in homes in various communities. It's always the blame to parents or guardians of these children. Is it intentional? Are our communities ready to accept &accomodate these children?let's ponder # inclusivity is the key#

Why do students with disabilities from varsity struggle to get jobs yet they have good grades, let alone getting an attachment. Makes me feel like am not doing anything for persons with disabilities.

Yesterday had a session with parents of children with disabilities and realised how deep rooted stigma, discrimination is in our society. I felt so helpless and so sad bt I ws strengthened to push harder, work harder until real INCLUSION is realised.
