Here's some truth bombs for you: Iran is going for broke. It will not surrender, it will not open the Strait of Hormuz, and it will fight to the death no matter how much destruction Israel and America inflict. The people of Iran are completely behind the Islamic Republic in this holy war. I also think Russia and China will increasingly get involved in this conflict on Iran's side. Iran has the power to crash the world economy and is willing to do so. The whole world is going to suffer because Israel wants to eliminate an enemy and has used its agents in the White House to enact its plan. This may well go down as the biggest blunder an American president ever committed. I see only one solution: it's down to the American people to overthrow and imprison their treacherous president and his Zionist henchmen.

Well neither has the British Constitution but it is nonetheless real. Cleese has developed a somewhat boorish habit of spouting off; I can’t speak for him. But your comment seems pedantic. Should Great Britain and the West generally change itself to accommodate people - a certain percentage of Muslims - who do not share its values and have no interest in coexistence? It’s a pretty clear and relevant question.

@davidbwade @JohnCleese I'm sorry, I am not interested in hearing about specious terms like the "UK's DNA" and "British Values". These things are never defined. And if we're talking about "Calmly and rationally" discussing these issues, then Cleese etc should stop parroting nonsense.

Is 'singling out' Muslims for criticism connected with their stated intention of killing people who aren't Muslims Other religions don't threaten death to people who disagree with them This may explain why the other religions are happily accepted as part of multiculturalism

Most don't, I'm sure. But one can notice trends and scale. I have run into a ton of crap from MAGA types over my refusal to blanked condemn Islam. I think we can recognize that the Islamic faith has some issues confronting modernity - but that individual Muslims often are quite successful in doing so, and the United States is one of the places where it actually works well - the integration and mutual respect. I can't speak to the UK's experience directly, as I've only been there a couple of times in the last decade, but there appears to be a scaling problem where recent less integrated people are demanding Muslim-centric accommodations which don't fit in the UK's DNA - and I don't think that half of Britons are 'far right' - what is it - 53% in a recent poll who found Islam incompatible with British values? It's not the right medium for a detailed inquiry, but some of the free speech concerns alone are enough to pose the question. I think these issues should be discussed calmly and rationally without throwing gasoline or dismissing an entire religion - but to acknowledge a problem exist doesn't have to do this.

@davidbwade @JohnCleese I don't have a position because you're talking about a whole faith which is simply too big to talk about in such terms. Do you believe Muslims in the UK want to ban people eating in the street during Ramadan? Or that they want to ban dogs? Or remove the cross from the flag?

@jaubreyYT You have to understand his worldview to understand the reference. He believes that our allies have taken advantage of us for decades and instead of gratitude have treated us only with contempt. He's not entirely wrong, certainly, but it's a tactless way to frame it.

"Sources describe the preparations as unprecedented since World War II. Soldiers were fully armed, deployed under the royal defense order, and ready for combat." Even if NATO survived the Greenland crisis it will inevitably leave scars in the alliance.
GeoInsider@InsiderGeo

NEW: Denmark reportedly prepared for a possible U.S. attack on Greenland. In January 2026, Danish soldiers were flown to Nuuk and Kangerlussuaq under Operation Arctic Endurance, carrying explosives and blood supplies, ready to defend the island if President Donald Trump attempted to seize it by force. Plans included destroying key runways to prevent U.S. aircraft from landing, ensuring that any attack would come at a high cost. The operation involved elite Danish units, including the Dragoon Regiment and Jægerkorps forces, alongside French alpine troops, with additional support offered by Germany, Norway, and Sweden. Sources emphasize that while European allies stood ready to assist, it was Denmark’s own planning and readiness that created the strongest deterrent, signaling clearly to the U.S. that Greenland would not be taken easily. The crisis escalated after the U.S. military operation in Venezuela on January 3, 2026, which made officials fear that Greenland could be next. Overnight, what had been a simmering concern became an urgent, all-hands-on-deck defense of the Kingdom, with Europe coordinating closely but leaving Denmark in the leading role. Sources describe the preparations as unprecedented since World War II. Soldiers were fully armed, deployed under the royal defense order, and ready for combat. F-35 fighter jets and naval assets were mobilized, while multiple European allies offered troops, air support, and naval presence. Operation Arctic Endurance was officially presented as a military exercise, but insiders stress there was nothing simulated about the readiness. Although President Trump later publicly ruled out military force, sources warn that the Greenland crisis is not over. Trump is here for three more years a high-ranking Danish source says. No matter what happens, the distrust and challenge to the Commonwealth will persist as long as he aims to go down in history by expanding U.S. territory. For French officials involved in the crisis, the past year under Trump has been a stark lesson: Europe must relearn the grammar of power and cannot assume that military support from the United States will always be available if Europe faces threats.

If you wonder why Europeans flinch from helping US in Gulf - in January, NATO allies were seriously preparing for a US sneak attack on Greenland, planning to blow up runways to prevent a Trump re-enactment of Putin's failed strike on Kyiv.
Orla Joelsen@OJoelsen

Denmark prepared for a possible U.S. attack: Flew blood supplies to Greenland and planned to blow up runways Key sources in Denmark and Europe are now revealing for the first time what happened during the most critical days, when Donald Trump threatened to take Greenland “the hard way.” When Danish soldiers were rapidly deployed to Greenland in January this year, they brought explosives with them. The plan was to destroy runways in Nuuk and Kangerlussuaq to prevent American military aircraft from landing troops on the island, should the U.S. president ultimately decide to seize Greenland by force. They also transported blood supplies from Danish blood banks so wounded personnel could be treated in case of combat. This is reported by DR, which over the past year has spoken with central sources in the Danish government, top military officers, and high-ranking officials and intelligence sources in Denmark, France, and Germany. All sources have played—and continue to play—key roles in the international crisis triggered by the United States’ demand for control over Greenland. Together, the sources describe an unprecedented year marked by sleepless nights. None of them had concrete intelligence of specific American attack plans against Greenland. Still, many feared in January that the historically important ally, the United States, could attack at any moment. At the same time, Denmark reached out to its European allies, leading to closer cooperation. “With the Greenland crisis, Europe realized once and for all that we must be able to handle our own security,” said a French senior official involved in the intense period. A rapid-response force consisting of Danish, French, German, Norwegian, and Swedish soldiers was first deployed to Nuuk and Kangerlussuaq. Shortly after, a main force followed, including: -Soldiers from the Danish Dragoon Regiment in Holstebro -Elite troops from the Jaeger Corps -French alpine troops trained for cold and mountainous warfare At the same time, Danish fighter jets and a French naval vessel were sent to the North Atlantic. According to several sources, the goal of having multinational troops on the ground was to ensure that any U.S. attempt to take Greenland would require a large-scale hostile action—thereby deterring such an attempt. “We have not been in such a situation since April 1940,” said a Danish defense source, referring to the days before Denmark’s occupation during World War II. Unlike in 1940, when Denmark chose not to resist militarily, the government and defense leadership this time decided—after extensive confidential discussions—to take the opposite approach: If the U.S. attempted an attack, Danish forces would be armed and ready to fight. Danish F-35 fighter jets deployed north were also fully armed. All this despite the understanding that Denmark could not realistically withstand a U.S. military attack. “The cost for the U.S. had to be raised. The U.S. would have to carry out a hostile act to take Greenland,” said a senior Danish defense source. Source: DR

The Heretical Liberal 🇨🇦
The Heretical Liberal 🇨🇦@Rob_ThaBuilder·
They dont "hate" their grandkids. My mother is one of these Liberal boomer women and she loves us and her grandkids more than anything in the world. They genuinely believe in the Liberal Project and think it works, because it DID for them. They just dont realize how much the world has changed and hiw wrong they are now. They dont see the negative effects liberalism has wrought on society. They dont see the disastrous effects of Suicidal Empathy. They grew up in a world where rhe social contract worked. The World worked. They grew up in a high-trust, culturally homogenous society, went to school at affordable costs, worked hard and got the promised rewards, bought homes at low rates and many became millionaires as those housing prices doubled several times over. The system worked for them, its no wonder they support it. What they dont realize is the system theyre supporting - the system that worked - no longer exists. It has been replaced by something else, a grotesque doppelganger zombified version of the system it replaced; similar enough on the surface to fool the well-meaning but ultimately uninterested Boomers into thinking its the same one that worked for them. There is no convincing these ppl. There is also no reason to hate them or believe they hate us. They do not. They're just old and set in their ways, and to expect them to change at this point is to expect a 65+ person to throw away their entire worldview (and one that worked very well for them). Its just not to happen. Theyll be gone soon enough, and the axis of politics will change again, as it always does.
