@dsbbba Attention to detail, just love it. To be fair a modern architect has made a very pleasing job of integrating a new narthex.

QI at #TempleMoore Nunthorpe, St Mary, thinking that the old church architects knew it all and we know nuffink... Spiral treads scooped at the newel to restrain a rope handrail. The modern replacement is somewhat weedy compared.

@100Covers Thank you so much for posting this. It was the only mag to buy at the time (Melody Maker and NME were in terminal decline). And Frame's rock family trees were unique. So it's great to dip in and time travel back to my best record buying days.

Scans of the legendary rock mag ZIGZAG now online. (I don’t expect many likes - you’d have to be my age or older to remember it 😁) worldradiohistory.com/UK/Zigzag.htm

Tomorrow is the Feast of Corpus Christi, where we celebrate the presence of the Lord in the Eucharist. There will be a mass with Procession outside at 7:30pm! Below are some pictures of the Feast in previous years

@NE_Arch_Hist @DioceseofDurham Lovely, thank you. The story is apparently that the font was hidden from the Parliamentarians, then recovered from the Rector's garden. A practical priest took to filling gaps in the 1970s himself with pure cement (of the hardest grade known to man).

Unexpected and lovely gift when visiting Hart, St Mary Magdalene @DioceseofDurham to look at their heating and font. They have their Saxon treasures on display now. And they are very impressive.

@clarescastle Top marks Clarissa for visiting. Yes, isn't it a joy! The pew ends were 'rescued' from Bridlington Priory at the dissolution. It has lovely glass too. Harry Harvey of York @DioceseOfYork

Driving thru N Yorkshire very close by the A19 is a lone church, floodlit at night. It had always intrigued us so we finally visited. A delight. From the magnificent door with inset small door, to the carved pew-ends, 21c tiny birds on the new wooden gates, purchased with funds for buildings in proximity to major roads. Massive gravestones, constant backdrop of HGVs passing by. A tremendously atmospheric spot; a disappeared mediaeval village. Highly recommend a visit. Terrific little history booklet too. We loved it. Thank you @leakechurch

@furniss_sons @DioceseOfYork Clever! I thought it might be burning the nail into the hole like a file tang into a handle. And the nail turn over technique I was taught was clenching- as in buttocks. Thank you for posting this. It's the reason I'm still on Twitter to be with the helpful conservation community

All Saints North Street, York, The iron nails were heated then driven through both the outer and inner leaves of the door, they were then clinched, as they cool and contract they pull the two surfaces tightly together, tis a traditional method - photograph is the inner surface of the door during decoration you can see the clinched nails

Quality Church Reordering Here, level access has been achieved at a Grade I Medieval Church. Stone paving was laid leading up to the door with new jamb stones inserted to lower the level, also a smart new flush iron drainage channel fixed at the threshold. The solid oak door was carefully designed and proportioned to appear in the style of joinery from the medieval period. Attention to detail included Marian scribe marks to the surfaces of the door, a gothic Marian drop handle, hot nailed studs, and traditional straps and pintles, all of which were hand forged from wrought iron. A combination of lime and linseed oil was used to protect the exposed surfaces of the door.
