I’ve also left XAI this week. I worked on several improvements to our favorite app and recommendation model, including the X video feed, search bar, user modeling, starter-packs and the home feed model. I wholeheartedly want to thank @elonmusk for creating this org that the world needs. Incredibly grateful for the stellar no pun intended team with @nikitabier @TheGregYang @VastoLorde95, @skhare95, @haitong_yu, and so many others. So much love and gratitude to this intensely driven group of people. I’ve known some of this team from the old Twitter days, and it is 1000% the insanely best it’s even been, with full sincerity they are killing it, and it’s because they are good and they care. XAI has a wartime mentality, and it is the only way we put compute on the moon and beyond. Life is meant to be lived with a sense of mission and with intensity and people will see one day, that the vision, dreams, and ambitious scope at this company will outstrip all others. This is a wonderful thing that one does not understand unless they do it. I hope the team maintains that sense of drive and purpose, it is humans not ideas that change the world, and xAI is one of the few and rare places where that understanding becomes reality. I’m excited about the future- not sure what I’ll be doing yet (my DMs are open), but there is a world to be changed and no time to waste. Go team, stay focused, be energized, I can’t wait to see you all on the moon and beyond, believe me when I say there is no one that I trust more on the entire planet to get there, there is a world to win.

Career update: I left xAI to start something new, closing my 7+ year chapter working at Twitter, X, and xAI with so much gratitude. xAI is truly an extraordinary place. The team is incredibly hardcore and talented, shipping at a pace that shouldn’t be possible. From the Home Timeline at X to Grok 2, 3, and 4 at xAI, I worked across product infra and model behavior post-training, from memory to coding infra, agents, and more. Pure startup mode, every day. Working closely with Elon across X and xAI, I saw what happens when you refuse to accept impossible as an answer. I learned to embody obsessive attention to detail, maniacal urgency, and to think from first principles. I’m deeply grateful to @elonmusk for the experience, to @wanghaofei for the trust and support throughout Twitter/X, and to @TheGregYang and @ibab for believing in me. And to the many incredible people I had the privilege to work with along the way, thank you! Now, I’m excited to take the leap and build something new, focused on accelerating science. More soon.

I've been suffering from Lyme disease. I'm stepping back from xAI into an informal advisory role so I can go founder mode on my health, starting today. --- The symptoms started when I got sick (cold, flu, or COVID -- I'm not sure which) in early 2025. I distinctly felt less energetic, less creative, and less agentic even weeks after "recovery." After that, my condition ebbed and flowed, but the lows kept getting lower. Accidentally eating the wrong thing would make me extremely tired, taking days to recover. Working out would leave my whole body feeble for days. There was a week where I slept 12 hours a day and still couldn't recover. Lyme is famously hard to diagnose, but luckily I have an incredible doctor. He suspected these symptoms, far from being just in my head, indicated immune issues. Detective work over a few rounds of testing revealed I have Lyme disease. I was very surprised because Lyme is said to come from tick bites (where the bump looks like a target), but I don't ever remember having one. Likely I contracted Lyme a long time ago, but until I pushed myself hard building xAI and weakened my immune system, the symptoms weren't noticeable. --- Overall, I actually feel lucky to have discovered this early. Lyme is a serious disease that only gets harder to treat with age -- patients discovering it in their 50s or 60s have a much tougher time. Lyme can also be debilitating, leaving its victims bedridden, but luckily I'm still functional and can take care of myself day to day. So while some folks have said "you shouldn't have pushed yourself so hard," I'm glad I did. I found this issue early, and now I can fix it so I can push myself even harder when I rebound. --- Chronic Lyme is not well understood in the literature or by the public. For folks suffering from it, it can be a lonely fight. But I hope my story can make it just a little less lonely.

Imo calling theater 'outdated' misses something fundamental: we don't gather in dark rooms to watch stories because it's efficient. We do it because experiencing a story together creates meaning that watching alone just can't. The collective gasp, the room holding its breath - there's very few things I could see replacing that
