@simongerman600 Simon, I did my own version of this, but for the Cambodia province of Ratanakiri. As a kid I would play in old bomb craters there, and so wanted to understand the details around how and when they were dropped. Have a look: google.com/maps/d/edit?mi…

This history map shows the US bombing in SE Asia during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1975. Blue dots are 1000 lb bombs or larger. Source: reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comm…

@OnDisasters There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots.

@RPanh This headline should have come out ten days ago!

@pakhead With respect, I'm not sure you are framing this correctly. I don't think Cambodia is in the drivers' seat; the asymmetry of military power, and the fact that all the violence is taking place on Cambodian soil, should give you an idea of who is the aggressor.

@Ajarncom I’ve browsed through that store several times, it’s always impressive what it has. I picked up an Aston Villa shirt for my son, who is obsessed with them. The only place in all of Southeast Asia that I find Villa merch.

I had to message my mate Sheffield Jon.
He won't believe what I found hanging in a little sports shop in a back street of Luang Prabang.

@AlexiLalas Hear me out: It’s all in the nomenclature. Instead of MLS2 (which no owner will stand for) create a top tier “superleague” called MLS Ultra or something, that the top 18 teams can play in. Essentially Pro-Rel, just with different names so owners won’t feel the risk.
English

MLS implementing a intra-MLS pro/rel has long been discussed, and USL is attempting to do it. But for the pro/rel zealots it’s a bastardized version of pro/rel. Also, why would MLS owners agree to voluntarily add the risk of being MLS2 after paying so much to mitigate that risk?
BAustinK@BAustinK1
@AlexiLalas Alexi,…I propose MLS expand to 36 teams and split into MLS and MLS2. 18 teams in each division. Adopt pro/rel (6 teams up/down) each season. A pro/rel model within a closed system. Balanced schedules, single tables. US Open Cup as competition for all ($$$M prize). 🤷♂️

@jacobincambodia I really dislike that it’s considered ok to walk into schools like they’re a museum. Tourists need to respect kids and not disrupt their education. We’d be horrified if it were the other way around, and tourists walked into our schools to take pictures of our kids.

There is a doctor shortage in the US right now. Every year, hundreds of doctors get H-1B visas to help fill those gaps. If hospitals had to pay an additional $100,000 fee, it's possible they would simply give up and not even try to fill positions.

@Ajarncom Phil, you could consider doing a Laos road trip. You can cross the border easily and the roads aren’t bad. I’ve done it in southern Laos (Pakse, attapeu and savanakhet area) and really enjoyed it.

My wife and I had a chat about where to go in December. She fancies Laos - taking a train from Bangkok to Vientiane, and then onto Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang. I did 10 minutes of research. Vang Vieng sounds like Pai in Nothern Thailand (which I hated), and a travel blog I read said that if you dislike Hoi An in Vietnam, you probably won't like Luang Prabang either. Truthfully, I didn't dislike Hoi An, but I've got little desire to repeat it.
So I've put Laos on the backburner... along with what feels like the rest of the world.
I've been to Vientiane twice, but both times were way back in the early 90s. The problem is that that's the image I still have in my head. And I bet it's very different nowadays.

@Ajarncom To be honest, with an iPhone, pretty much everything just transfers over when you log in to the new phone, including Bluetooth headphone pairings. I’m surprised Samsung doesn’t do that.
English

I finally bit the bullet and bought a new Samsung phone.
Three hours later, I'm still wading through app passwords and log ins and up to my eyeballs in emails and verification codes. I don't think there was a single app that transferred smoothly.
Hopefully I won't have to do this again for another 5-6 years.
English

@MintMobileCares please improve your iOS app. It’s really sub par. Face ID never works, and I get the “whoops it looks like something went wrong” well over half the time. It doesn’t remember my prior logins ever. The two-step verification almost never works.

@11Yanks usmnt mls fans are overlooking his work rate speed and athleticism I.e. the top of the sport and how it projects
He might be able to hang but I'm not convinced yet
That round small body doesn't usually allow for a top level player

Long time ago I read but Bill Bryson listed them in Made in America: fall (for autumn), garbage, homicide off top of head. I think the z in civilization was pretty standard once too

Is there a term for “Americanism that’s actually an abandoned Britishism”? I’d always assumed “elementary school” was an import, but it was the British term until “Primary School” was invented in 1944.
