To all the left-wing deathbringers out there: Trump's disapproval has recently been reported at an average of minus 12.9 points. Some light unskewing reveals that it's more like minus 10.0 points. And any minus 20 or minus 25 results are conceptual fabrications, utterly ridiculous even if derived from genuine data of some sort. More to the point, you're not going to shame Trump out of office. Your efforts so far have been shameful on their own. I'm not encouraging you to escalate; I'm encouraging you to give up completely and forever.

How has physics learned so much about unobservable particles? Why has it hit a brick wall with string theory and other (so far) untestable theories, as @skdh and others argue? Thomism illuminates both facts, I argue in "The Epistemology of Microphysics": edwardfeser.com/unpublishedpap…

@AlexSalvati3 @FeserEdward Generic ballot average on March 26, 2018 was Dems +5.8. If that's tight, then it's even tighter now at Dems +5.4.

@firstchecker2 @FeserEdward At this time in 2018 the generic ballot average was quite tight. Most of those independents, who despise Trump, haven't checked in yet.

What the Trumpoids never understood is that the swing voters who decide elections didn't love Trump the way they do. They just hated the Democrats. And now they hate Trump. All the "landslide" and "Golden Age" talk was always delusional and the awakening is going to be a rude one
Damon Linker@DamonLinker

Think about how intense hatred for Trump must be for Dems to be +11 when other polls show that the Dem brand is still in a toilet. Voters don't like the Dems. They just really, really want to show Trump they hate what he's doing, and voting for his opponents is the only option.

@FeserEdward The Iranian regime doesn't have ICBMs, the only way they can "strike America" is to hit our nearby bases. They were never developing a nuclear weapon, despite Bibi telling they were "weeks away" for 30 years. IAEA inspections testify to that. Fatwas issued against such weapons.

It's the new "Would you prefer letting Grandma die or working from home?" Completely phony hysteria that no one believed twenty minutes ago. I'd quote Mencken's famous line about the intelligence of the American people, except that most people aren't falling for the BS this time.

Indeed. Trump has been saying from the first minute of the war that it will be quick. A half-dozen examples: "This war will be over very soon." "I think you'll see it's going to be a short-term excursion." "We're getting very close to finishing...it is going to be ended soon." "We're way ahead of schedule...it won't be much longer." "We projected four to five weeks...but we're substantially ahead of schedule." "It's going to be ended soon...we're getting very close."

@FeserEdward It doesn't help that he's confused his argument. Are the women and children guilt'/ and deserving of death, or are the'/ incidental casualties? When Dr. Feser similarl'/ confuses his arguments, he undermines his own moral authorit'/, which at this point is entirel'/ imaginar'/.

An absolutely wicked mentality, here no less than when it comes from jihadists. Obedience to the moral law must always trump the passions and interests of tribe or party.

If you went into hysterics over people being forced to take the COVID shot – and understandably so, it should not have been mandatory – but glibly dismiss concerns about needless risk to the lives of U.S. servicemen and Iranian civilians, then you’re a hypocrite, pure and simple.

1. The original agent in charge of Flynn's investigation recommended closing it; discredited Stzrok kept it open, and the whole thing was predicated on the dubious Logan Act. 2. Comey is on record admitting he violated FBI policy by not notifying WH counsel before conducting interview he allegedly lied in. 3. Then FBI violated policy by taking three weeks, instead of 3 to 5 days, to file the record of the interview, which was suspiciously edited. 4. Flynn has credibly maintained for a long time he only pled guilty due to the financial pressures of the government's lawsuit -- he sold a house to pay legal bills.

Just noting that an undisclosed amount of our tax dollars is going to a man who pleaded guilty to the crimes that the DOJ just settled with him over.

It’s astounding how many people (including many Catholics) treat the question of whether the Iran war meets just war criteria as if the burden of proof were on the critics of the war rather than on the defenders. This is like saying that when deciding whether to execute someone, the burden of proof is on those who say that the condemned man is innocent, rather than on those who say he is guilty. Most would never take this insanely reckless attitude if the other party were in power, even if the issue were less momentous than war. For example, most of these same people (rightly) did not take this ridiculous “the burden of proof is on the critics” attitude where lockdowns were concerned. This alone shows how corrupted by partisanship and emotion their judgment on the war has become.

The blues and golds and glowing soft textures in these egg tempera paintings cannot be ever adequately captured on a camera. When I first saw Giotto’s paintings in Florence, I was absolutely stunned. It’s worth it to see them in person. Your visual world will be changed forever.

That sounds compelling, but it is false at its core. The West never became “self-aware” in the sense you suggest. It became systemically effective — scientifically, technologically, organizationally — but that is not the same as self-awareness. What you call a “miracle” was rather: 👉 the ability to build a coherent narrative 👉 the ability to impose that narrative on the world 👉 the ability to operate within it But that was not recognition. It was a structure that replaced recognition. That is why this “miracle” does not need to repeat itself — because it was never what it seemed. And it is not “dying of old age.” It is exhausting itself, because it has reached the limits of its own coherence. What we are witnessing today is not the death of self-awareness. It is the moment when it becomes visible that: 👉 coherence was maintained by narrative 👉 not by actual recognition And now a real divergence appears: either a new “story of exceptionalism” will emerge (another version of the same) or, for the first time, something may appear that is not based on narrative, but on direct seeing So it is not: “The West is dying like an old organism” but rather: 👉 a certain way of sustaining meaning is ceasing to function And that is not the end. It is the moment when something real could finally begin — if one does not escape into yet another story about a “miracle.”

@Jacniacki_Zbig @JeremyTate41 The West became self-aware in the same manner Homo Sapiens became self-aware. That miracle has failed to repeat or replicate itself, and could well and soon die of old age.

Many texts today speak about the “decline of the West” as if it were a unique pinnacle of civilization — as if nothing of value existed before it and nothing meaningful could exist after it. That reeks of victim narcissism. The West is not a miracle. It is one expression of human consciousness — powerful, but neither unique nor eternal. And what we are witnessing is not its decline. …acniacki-zyciemojeinasze.blogspot.com/2026/03/this-i…
