@cnpamoi @w9maidavale Nah. Texas has ultra cheap solar power now because they refused to reduce oil consumption until the alternative was ready. The biggest error of green politics in Europe has been reducing consumption instead of forcing innovation the hard way

Seriously? Water is scarce. London is in drought but just look at Westminster School's playing fields in Vincent Square. This is not a reasonable use of fast dropping water resources.

@CharlotteCymru The Treaty of Waitangi in Maori is slightly different to the English version and elevating Maori above English theoretically reopened some constitutional issues that had already been dealt with once.

@SCFCJosh96 @volvicstorm98 It seems like it's doing alright, am watching Michael Portillo Goes Around Portugal on there at the moment and all the trailers are for fairly expensive looking dramas with a decent cast. The median member of the public is old as fuck now and I think they've cracked it

Was thinkin last night and it seems my most middle class belief is we should just turn off Channel 5. I think the only thing I ever watched was ashes highlights. Also it pisses me off that sometimes it's Channel 5 but sometimes it's Five and sometimes it's 5. How about it's NOWT

@v_j_freeman Manchester's quite snug local authority boundary explains a lot of it. On the total contribution by constituency this effect is smoothed out and Manchester does pretty well again. A lot of it is in Trafford, Salford, Stockport, top bit of Cheshire though.

Placement of Manchester relative to other northern cities should raise eyebrows given how much it’s currently being hyped as economic success story to great benefit of our current PM. Considering the basis of Leeds’ success queries need to ‘reindustrialise’ the north.

Great chart in @London_Centric Newham contributes almost as much income tax as Manchester? Islington more than Birmingham? Fascinating

Clearly already a different set up with WG receiving the Wales share in the block grant. But interesting to see where Cardiff sits. And also whether the redistribution formula is needs or population based……which may make a stronger case for Barnett 2.0.

@PwnProblems @lukerobertblack The Spanish also choose to spend 12-13% of income in bars/restaurants/cafes, about double the UK does. Lower property costs creates so much room for nice food and drink

@PlinthBotherer5 @lukerobertblack Makes me think Spain the way to go, cheap food and Beckham Law (Article 93 LIRPF), personal income tax rate of 24% on earnings up to €600,000 for up to 6 years. Then come back here.

Our food prices are 11% lower than France. Norway’s food is 36% more expensive than ours, Denmark’s is 16% more expensive and Sweden’s is 9% more expensive. Our food is also cheaper here than Belgium, Ireland or Holland. What are we trying to fix here?

@PwnProblems @lukerobertblack Ireland pokes ahead because of higher wages if you do it based on share of expenditure, but we genuinely have unusually low food costs vs wages in the UK

This place charges only £7 per car, I wonder why it's so lucrative that people want to scrap over it...? Armed police descend on car wash after 'fight involving weapons' breaks out #ICID=Android_WalesOnlineNewsApp_AppShare" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-new…

@BBCWalesNews The 3rd item there is literally people getting fined for parking in a pub car park with a parcel locker not covered by the pub's parking scheme

@BBCWalesNews The 1st item here is important but the court case ended on Tuesday (WalesOnline covered it live) and they have plainly just held it back expecting a quiet Friday which didn't materialise

Am hoping that the Gwaelod-y-Garth quarry explosion/avalanche/flooding prompts some introspection @BBCWalesNews also. A total failure to rise to the occasion, yet again they stuck to a pre-written feature as planned and ran it in 2nd place.
Stephen Kinnock@SKinnock

My thoughts are with the Gwaelod-y-Garth community and all affected by the quarry incident & flooding. My profound thanks to emergency services & everyone helping. Health & Safety Executive has attended & is working with South Wales Police to commence an investigation.

@benchwarmer001 @OscarSykes7 Big city centre office blocks can't do this by itself any more for some sort of structural reason, so we get one at 3pm each Friday and then every 3 months another one at a wildcard time. Bad.

@OscarSykes7 If the alarm goes off at the same time every week then its 99% chance its a test. If it goes off at any other time then its a 99% chance its real

I would like to see a cost-benefit analysis on doing weekly fire alarm tests which are common in UK offices. Feels really bad to condition people to think if the fire alarm goes off there is a 95% chance a test, maybe that outweighs the risk of hardware failure

@ILovesTheDiff There's this one on Ninian Park Rd, in an area with a very low student population and quite far from a uni. I think they get raided, move and take the letters with them

A vape shop on Woodville Road being replaced by a coffee and acai bowl business is a welcome development. I think it was called Canna Vape which was always a strange name for the East Side.
