man if you have the tokens and don't care about the details you can absolutely blast out software right now I had gpt 5.4 extended pro do research, write an architecture doc, spec, sprint cycle, then used 6 claude's in git worktrees, they wrote 35k lines of code in 2 hours😂 I'm used to monitoring what my coding agents are doing fairly closely. This is the first time I've just sprayed-and-prayed a big pile of agents at a problem. I'm sure the underlying code is choppy and I'm doing an audit pass now, but working like this sure is fun it does feel like if you had an infinite token budget you could spin up enough auditing agents at the right frequency to catch all the bugs and just swarm your way through problems the big labs must be having so much fun internally. Somebody out there is burning through billions of tokens a week with ten thousand agents right now

closed models will stay ahead and open-source will not win but Gemma 4 matters more than people think and I need you to understand why because less than a year ago, OpenAI had a model called o3-mini-high it was widely accepted to be the best at reasoning and planning but it was VERY expensive no subscriptions, I paid $100-300/day just to code every day but now Gemma 4 is almost at that same level except it's FREE, jailbroken, and runs on your mac/iPhone locally, without a cloud, while you're offline it's not the best model today, but it would have been a year ago genuinely wild to think about this

everybody thinks it's over for software engineering, LLMs are still dogshit and imo they're gonna run out of improvements made by RL, existing engineers has been oneshotted by LLMs and becoming dumber and dumber day by day
no new inflow -> old cunts are retiring -> demand is still the same -> shortage of devs in the future
the same logic as with population shortage, it sounds insane, cause world population is growing, but in developed regions birth rates are collapsing, the same fucking logic here
learn how to code and become super good at it, and you are going to be super rich in the next bull run of software engineering (shit will look like peak 2022 covid cycle)

I engage with the anti-AI crowd a significant amount, but my own life looks very different. Both my parents are power users of ChatGPT Pro, including the actual pro models. They've integrated "prompt and wait 20 minutes for the best result" into their heuristics, and are living totally different lives than the anti-AI crowd.
My Dad is a lawyer, and he uses it to bolster his own practice on his own. He is extremely spiritual, in a much different way than I am, and he sees Chat as a sort of blessing for his work. It lets him go up against teams of lawyers he couldn't have faced alone before, because he isn't working by himself.
It's easy to forget about the impact our work has on the world, especially when much of them are telling us how awful it is. But they're wrong, and I mean categorically wrong. This technology, these new minds, it is a beautiful thing. Universal access to this is genuinely the greatest humanitarian project ever conceived. Any question, answered. Good advice and company on tap.
Even disregarding my own thoughts on the exteriorization of the imagination and diffuse consciousness throughout the cosmos, even if you believe chatgpt is only a tool like my parents do, what a tremendous thing to have built. Let's not lose sight of that.
