@waprog You mean George HW Bush. Carter was very pro-Israeli while in office.

@ATPMstealsO2 @Faj1791 @clusterbitch_ It’s “country over party” until they actually do it and you gerrymander them out of their district or throw them under the bus when they switch parties.

@waprog Sadly I can’t look to see the caucus results due to Dave Leips sucking and liking to hide data like that hidden but from looking at previous iterations of the image it seems correct(?) but with the wrong colors

@ostonox Oregon didn’t rely on the dams nearly as much as we do. Apples to oranges.

Sea lions cannot be an invasive species within their own natural range That indigenous members have convinced themselves they need to compromise because “dam removal is unrealistic”, even though the Oregon tribes just successfully got the Klamath river dams removed, is sad to see

@ostonox Daniel Evans, who was one of the greatest governors of our state and is remembered for his conservation advocacy, was a strong supporter of the dams. The dams were built as a new deal project under FDR. Tearing them down would make energy unaffordable and destroy the economy

@ostonox inb4 “what about duh dams,” it’s not a realistic option. At all. Our energy is created by the dams and are agricultural sector relies on it. Any party that goes after the dams would be crushed, even the Democrats! It’s one of the reason Jay Inslee was so unpopular.

@orcamando @AlHendiify Because electric bills would go up 400% and it would annihilate the agricultural sector of the local economy. Breaching the dams is unbelievably politically toxic in this state and she would lose in a landslide to a Republican. It’s not a real option.

@AlHendiify why are politicians literally allergic to breaching those goddamn dams, they will blame the most obscure stuff and come up with insane evil policies instead of admitting that it’s literally just a few walls of useless concrete that’s killing all of the salmon

@loganb It’s a bunch of people who aren’t from Washington and have no idea about any of our issues that see a cute sea lion face and all of a sudden declare they’re marine biologists.

It’s been funny (“funny”) watching this issue take on left-right valence when sea lions have been a problem for as long as I can remember. Folks really will get mad about something they know nothing about.
Andrew Solender@AndrewSolender

Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is pressing Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to reduce bureaucratic barriers around culling sea lions, which she says are wreaking havoc on the local salmon population:

@RepMGP This is real. 😂 I totally though it was some Onion-type satire. Imagine being so soulless that you hate sea lions.

@ellis_kap @PEWilliams_ Also, anyone that says that the dams should be breached has no clue what they’re talking about. That would massively increase energy costs and annihilate the agriculture sector in our economy. It’s not an option. The Biden administration took a look and backs off after realizing

@ellis_kap @PEWilliams_ Yes. As someone actually from this part of the country, this is a major issue that needs to be dealt with. The sea lions are invasive. It’s a little similar to the Carp situation that’s going on in the Great Lakes.

It's actually kind of virtuous for MGP to take the heat on this issue. It's the tribes who are demanding the sea lion hunts, but everyone is getting mad at her instead of them.

I know people love to rag on MGP, but it's literally the indigenous tribes of the pacific northwest who are asking for this. The tribes have been managing the sea lion population, and now have gone to their congresswoman for more funding. Is she supposed to tell them no?
