Background story on Fable being pulled and it’s a real facepalm but in Anthropic’s side. Get 🍿 ready. So Fable is Mythos + guardrails. US Gov learns of a jailbreak, Anthropic declines to fix saying it’s not serious, so US Gov imposes export controls. Probably not the entire story.
David Sacks@DavidSacks

I’ve had a number of conversations with folks inside and outside government about the current situation with Anthropic, and here is what I believe to be true: — As we know, Anthropic publicly released its Mythos class models earlier this week under the commercial name Fable. — Fable is Mythos with guardrails. But if those guardrails fail, then you’ve exposed Mythos and its advanced cyber capabilities to people who shouldn’t have them. (Keep in mind that Anthropic itself widely promoted the idea that Mythos was a cyberweapon and needed to be regulated as such. They asked for government regulation of Mythos and championed the guardrails on Fable. If there is a vulnerability — big or small — it is Anthropic’s responsibility to patch.) — A highly credible trusted partner of both Anthropic and the USG who was testing Fable came forward with a jailbreak of those guardrails. The Admin asked Dario to fix the jailbreak or de-deploy the model. Dario refused. — In their blog post, Anthropic defended its decision by saying the jailbreak isn’t serious. That is not what the trusted partner and the USG believe; nor is that kind of minimizing language consistent with Anthropic’s brand as the AI safety company. It’s difficult to fathom how they could claim a jailbreak allowing operability of a cyber weapon could be defined as not “serious.” — In the past, Anthropic has always said that safety must be top priority and taken super seriously. In this case, Anthropic prioritized the continued offering of the consumer model over safety. — In reaction, the Admin issued the export control. The Admin did this reluctantly. It’s been very surprised that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to cooperate with a reasonable safety request (ie fixing the jailbreak issue). Anthropic’s reaction is very much at odds with their branding and ethos as a safe AI research community. — The Admin’s hope now is that Anthropic remediates the safety issue, the export control is lifted, and Fable goes back into general release. The Admin wants all of this to happen as soon as possible. It is frankly bewildered that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to comply with safety requests that it previously said were its highest priority. — Those trying to misdirect and tie this action to the prior DoW/Anthropic issues are wrong. The Admin values Anthropic’s technical capabilities and feels that this issue, while serious, should be easily resolved. The ball is in Anthropic’s court.

@_MaxBlade Resizing alone is huge productivity win. Always messin around with too many windows. @_MaxBlade you got a full feature list somewhere? I'm not yet ready to drop the cash on this, but I'm curious

@xp15n Not sure how Apple does embeddings in Apple Photos, but they made this amazing CLIP model, MobileCLIP2. It’s absolutely the best for iPhones, but of course it can’t be used in commercial apps 😕

Introducing Pool That little icon got us $2M in funding, 15M organic views, and now you can all finally discover what's behind it. Pool is "just an app for your screenshots." But it holds a few bets we decided to build a whole company on. We believe the context of the future is your camera roll. Understanding someone's taste, the texture of their life, can unlock things we can't even comprehend yet. We believe the future of interfaces will feel the way games make us feel, computing as a beautiful mix of art and technology. Now live on the App Store.

@appmakes Your app breaks with Dvorak keyboard layout. Typing in the window works. But the application-level keyboard shortcuts are bound to the physical keyboard keys, instead of the logical layout keys.

@meshygrey Yeh nah. That kid definitely didn’t have braces then in Australia. That level of orthodontistry was out of reach for most then. +1 for the can of Solo. I loved Solo.

🇦🇺🦘🏡Remember Australia before greedy politicians sold out our country to fill their coffers? Back when our parents could buy a house for $118k, a parmi was $9.50, and they still had enough left over for a caravan park holiday. Brilliant work from @akta.media (Instagram)

@shreyas Shreyas this is so true. If you can’t explain simply, if you can’t describe the causal relationship, you’re just using other people’s words. More accurately, other people may be using you… just thinking.

If you’re already very good at product, you can immediately get better at product with this one weird trick: try to sound less clever when thinking about & discussing product insights and ideas. This forces you to deal at the level of truth rather than clever proxies. This is easier said than done, but definitely can be done. Now, in 9 out of 10 companies, once you’ve made a good decision by thinking and discussing without feeling clever or sounding clever, by all means be super-clever and strategically abstruse as you present your proposal to other clever people and be sure to make them all feel very clever as you do this, whereupon they'll agree and approve your proposal in record time, each individual patting themselves on the back for their unique brand of cleverness.

@petergyang Open AI already does identity verification (KYC via the phone) for individuals and organizations wanting to use top image generation models. That’s what Anthropic has to implement it seems. But at a per user level 😳

Hi Shao. This also happens when sharing from the x for iOS app. Is it possible your share sheet is blocking the screen with a view? Not sure why only in my device (it’s an ancient 12 Pro Max). Hope this helps. I’m enjoying the main screen. I think it works well. Pool’s soft ratio layout is good, but not as useful as your 2-col variable height tiles.

You can now join the waitlist to try Awenate (aw·nayt). It's a new way to design and interact with your product in real time. Still in private beta, but invites will go out slowly as I develop. (And yes, the landing page was designed inside Awenate.) awenate.com
