For the past two weeks, achieved an efficiency of 434% for our ASHP. Also known as a SCOP of 4.34. 1kWh of electricity generated 4.34kWh’s of heat. We heat hot water overnight on @OctopusEnergy 7p/kWh so the HP is cheaper to run than a gas or our previous oil boiler 👍

@juliandc @OctopusEnergy Not trying to be awkward but, if you have achieved an efficiency of 434%, you’ve discovered a way off breaking the laws of thermodynamics. 🤔

@speakjava @juliandc @OctopusEnergy Come on Simon, this isn't breaking the laws of thermodynamics because it's moving energy, not creating it. Please ask your friendly LLM how heat pumps work. A SCOP of over 4 is a good sign of an efficient install and makes the heat pump cheaper to run than a gas boiler.

@stevendick @juliandc @OctopusEnergy An efficiency of 434% indicates you're getting 4.34 times as much energy out as you put in. The 1st law of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or destroyed. I was being a bit facetious in my reply, but *as stated*, that is breaking the 1st law.
