Impact of proposed Tax on Share Buyback:- If we buy 100 shares at INR 2000 each, the total cost is 2 lakh. If the company buys back all 100 shares at the same price, the 2 lakh received by the shareholder is considered as a dividend. The initial 2 lakh spent on buying the shares is treated as a capital loss. The dividend (2 lakh) is counted as "Income from other sources" and cannot be adjusted against the capital loss from the share purchase.
