Tribalism is gangrenous rot to democracy, peace, and human flourishing. Remind me to ask your opinion, not your team. To respond with curiosity, not condemnation. To debate, not demonise. To critique the opinion, not the person. Disagree, not reject. To value challenge, not confirmation. To forgive your flaws and remember my own. To assume good faith. Tribalism is evolved. Limbic. The most natural thing in the world. We must fight it with all our hearts.

Police time will no longer be wasted investigating legal social media posts, freeing up officers to patrol the streets and tackle real crime. By scrapping Non‑Crime Hate Incidents, we are balancing the protection of vulnerable communities while respecting free speech.

@DrChrisCombs I expect the challenge is translating the given scenario into equations, which takes a little practice.

@DrChrisCombs Yah. Simultaneous equations with 2 unknowns. Subtract to eliminate one then solve for x. You learn this when you're 12 or 13 right?

@19user84 @DonaldPond6 @PostOffice It’s not Royal Mail, it’s the Post Office. They seem to think they can charge more for the service for some reason, so if you buy it yourself through RM it’s cheaper.

Had to send a parcel today so went to @PostOffice and put it on the scales. That's £17. But it said £6 online I said. That's if you buy online. So I left the queue, bought online, then waited in line, showed my QR code on the phone and paid £6. Why make it so difficult?

That would only heat water with 100% efficiency. With heat pumps you can do 3-4x better than that. But yes it's a thing. The problem is generally that you have to put the mining equipment where the water heating needs is (e.g. swimming pool) and you end up losing the economy of scale.

A computer can "mine" Bitcoin, but you'll use more electricity than the Bitcoin is worth. However the laws of physics tell us that all the energy used to mine the Bitcoin, 100% of it, ends up as heat. Hear me out. Bitcoin mining water heater. Ecco. Bitcoin mining costs = zero.

One of the reasons why installing solar thermal does not make sense anymore, PV is now 10x cheaper and easier to and cheaper to install

@mysteriouskat When people can't find where they disagree it's often because they haven't gone back as far as 'do you believe in objective reality'. It helps to identify this early so you can move on

@fastworkers6 The only problem is that you have to slide them all the way along the row to the middle. How do you do corners? Actually they look kind of fragile and unstable. How are they transported without breaking? What problem do they solve again? What's wrong with mortar?

How Things Are Manufactured
These bricks, designed by a Spanish architect, interlock with each other using a key-lock model. They do not require mortar when the wall is being built. During an earthquake, they also provide special resistance by supporting one another.

Lunar Permanence has always been a part of our vision. Our facilities, workforce, and production infrastructure are designed to support @NASAMoonBase. We're ready to meet the nation's needs. We're all in.
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman@NASAAdmin

To build a sustained human presence on the Moon, we are building @NASAMoonBase, prioritizing surface operations and scalable infrastructure.  - Frequent robotic landings and mobility testing including MoonFall drones  - Starting in 2027 nearly monthly cadence of equipment and rovers with scientific payloads landing on the Moon.  - Investments in power, communications, and surface mobility  - Scalable infrastructure to support long-term human presence The objective is clear: build the foundation for an enduring lunar base and take the next step toward Mars.

@NoemiKhachian FWIW I (a man) also hate this with a passion. I used a bathroom labelled "bathroom with cubicles" then felt like an asshole to discover I was essentially invading the women's bathroom. Why.

@RichardDawkins @Avast We all know that pain. My rule of thumb is that it takes a third of the time to re-do something. The first time around mostly mini dead-ends, and more learning than doing.

Warning! @Avast cleanup for Mac. I just lost a morning’s work. Avast flashed up invitation to Cleanup. I saved my MS Word file, set Cleanup going, went for coffee. When I returned, I told Word to reload the file: “No longer available”. That was my morning’s work down the pan.

Project Hail Mary was great, but seeing it in theaters reminded me a of why theaters are gradually dying. Whether or not you can understand the dialogue depends on where you are sitting in the theater and how the speakers are calibrated, and one or both were not working for us.

@scaling01 The idea isn't that it's cheaper do it in space with current energy prices. The idea is that this makes sense when there isn't any more energy generation capacity on earth. Permits and connection for new solar sites can take several years

@Camp4 I would add to this be wary of folding back extension machines which aren't really sturdy enough for single leg holds. Better to get the linked one or similar and take the hit on floor space while you're rebuilding your back. I learned this the hard way so you don't have to!

In the 3 years since I severely herniated a disc at L5/S1, I’ve tried everything under the sun to rehab and prevent reinjury. If I had to recommend just one exercise, it would be this one. It’s the single best exercise for strengthening the posterior chain and the intricate scaffold of muscles that support the spine. It’s a $100 piece of equipment (link in the comments below). Start with static holds and work your way up to 2 minutes. Then start moving as shown below and work your way up to 3 sets of 30. Then you can do more advanced things like added weight and one-leg static holds. A 3-minute deep squat each morning plus this exercise 2-3 times a week plus hanging knee lifts is a great basic back mobility program. If you want to go deeper, check out my full back program in the comments below.

I had a buddy in college (prone to tall tales) who told me that there were secret sensors embedded in the pavement and if you didn’t pull your car up far enough the light wouldn’t turn green. He was right?? All these years I thought it was just a fantastic tale he told me.
