@3phalaropes

PhD in phalaropology (although my degree says biology for some reason). Also a fan of non-phalarope birds.

We would like to extend a huge congratulations to Patricia Homonylo for being chosen as the Bird Photographer of the Year for 2024! “When Worlds Collide” is an impactful image that Patricia took at our 30th Anniversary Layout in 2023.

We couldn’t have done this without our amazing patrol, rescue and advocacy volunteers. Thank you to everyone involved in helping to make 200 Kent Street safer for birds ❤️🎉🥳🐦
Feather Friendly@FeatherFriendly

The glass facade at 200 Kent Street is becoming safer for birds, thanks to our authorized dealer/applicator Lindian's meticulous work. We thank @SafeWingsOtt for their relentless efforts in documenting collisions and driving the call for change. #savebirds #featherfriendly

@acattingale @audubonsociety Unfortunately these stickers are unlikely to be effective in the long run because of the spacing. To be effective, markers should be max 10 cm apart, and on the outside of the glass. More info at safewings.ca .

During the day, shiny glass exteriors, plants near windows, & greenery close to buildings can be deadly as birds can't distinguish reflection from open flyway. Window collisions kill up to 1 billion birds yearly in the US. Learn how to be #BirdFriendly: bit.ly/4bjnCrP

@HUAWEI_TECH4ALL @WWFitalia Your Ottawa office kills thousands of birds a year through collisions. That's a pretty good place to start if you want to protect birds.

Just two Red-necked Phalaropes out for a spin! These birds paddle in a circle to draw up water (and food) from further down, so they can eat delicious invertebrates without even getting their heads wet. #PhalaropePhriday #Spin #BirdTwitter

We are reaching peak bird migration in many parts of the United States. Remember to dim your lights for birds at night so that they can safely travel without becoming disoriented. 🧵

@nokia Kind of ironic using a bird to advertise when your Ottawa office building kills thousands of birds a year...

TWINS! Red-necked Grebes and Red-necked Phalaropes share more than just their fancy neck colour - both are paddling away with lobed feet below the surface. So nice they made it twice! #PhalaropePhriday #ConvergentEvolution

@MPanda73 I don't know what the answer is for garbage disposal in remote areas but it definitely needs improving. Ideally starting with less plastic packaging to begin with.

One of my favourite places to go in every Arctic town I visit is the sewage lagoon. Often the earliest place to melt in the spring, they can be full of wildlife like #Phalaropes and #SabinesGulls . Luckily you can't smell photos! #PhalaropePhriday

@MPanda73 Not sure if the sewage is a danger but there's lots of garbage. No recycling in the north+ open dumps + strong winds = widely spread garbage. Entanglement and plastic consumption are definitely worried.
