@flavorjones I did the same a few years ago. Was lucky to be able to do so within my co. Most of the stuff which I like stayed the same (leadership, mentorship). The highest order bit changed from being responsible for the technical strategy/design rather than people issues. Plus coding!

So I quit my job as a director of engineering earlier this year. I was really burned out. I spent the last few months focusing on open-source development with the intention of going back to work as an engineer (not a manager). It's been amazing.
