After a junior hockey player in B.C. was charged with sexually assaulting a teenaged girl in Nanaimo in January 2023, he was allowed to continue playing in the league. Kenneth Boychuk, who is accused of sexually assaulting a girl at her home after they met via a dating app, kept playing for the Junior A Nanaimo Buccaneers after he was charged because the team's then-GM Tali Campbell said it was determined that Boychuk was not a danger to the public. Boychuk, who also is accused of punching the girl to the point she blacked out, also played for the Junior A Kerry Park Islanders this season following a trade. Starting next season five teams; Spruce Grove, Sherwood Park, Brooks, Blackfalds and Okotoks will be merging with BCHL teams. I’m curious if more join or what the AJHL will do? At some point Hockey Canada will need to work with these other leagues rather than against them.
