#OTD - 3rd March 1966
The Postmaster General authorised the introduction of a colour television service on BBC2 from late 1967.
Colour was introduced on 1 July 1967 with coverage of the Wimbledon tennis championship. Limited weekly hours were in colour before rapidly expanding to 80% of programming by December 1967.

"The Television Follies" produced in 1933, and considered lost for decades made an appearance on @TalkingPicsTV in the early hours of 15th February '26, made available by the Cinema Museum in London.
This amazing gem features a variety show that purports to be playing on a Baird Televisor. This film has an important part in broadcasting history.

#OTD - 30 Jan 1937
The last transmission using the Baird system to be transmitted from Alexandra Palace.
The final programme was "Cabaret" featuring The June Dancers, #RonaldFrankau - comedian, #Michaelson - cartoonist, #PaddyBrown - spoken monologues.
The programme ran from 9:38 to 10:03 and suffered several technical difficulties throughout the programme.

@filmisfabulous R3Store achieved an amazing restoration of some 9.5mm film of RadiOlympia rehearsals at Alexandra Palace from August 1936, before the official launch of the BBC Television Service official launch in November 1936.

On this day, spanning 30-31 January 1957, a notable colour broadcast demonstration took place for a sizable gathering of both Houses of Parliament members, using six television sets positioned in a chamber within the House of Lords.

@APTSArchive This was after 2 years of experimentation in Hastings, culminating in a demo of his invention to the Radio Times in 1924. It worked, but Baird was disappointed with the images. After moving to London, he developed and improved his invention and then came the successful 1926 demo.

#JohnLogieBaird successfully demonstrated his mechanical #television system able to show a human face, at 22 Frith Street, Soho.
Today 100 years later an event will be held at the same location to commemorate the anniversary with JLB's grandson.
