HB 2917 is an extreme measure that cripples cooperation between Arizona law enforcement and federal partners. With the Trump Administration pointing to a more secure border and historically low crime rates, now is not the moment to weaken the tools that help stop threats that make it past the border. From illegal immigration to fentanyl trafficking and human smuggling, these challenges don’t stop at jurisdictional lines—and neither should enforcement efforts. Arizona’s safety depends on strong, coordinated action—not policies that tie the hands of those working to protect our communities. @AzHouseGOP @AzSenateGOP

SB1111; automatic license plate readers SB1111 was a crucial step toward addressing major privacy concerns of our citizens and the concerns of law enforcement regarding the use of traffic camera license plate reader. Both concerns are valid. While it is a significant tool for law enforcement’s use in solving crimes and providing public safety, we understand that we have not found the proper balance of protecting the public’s concerns for privacy and setting sufficient guardrails for law enforcement’s use of traffic cameras. It is clear considerable work is still required, and we will continue to work with our elected representatives and the community to find the right solution. We thank Senator Payne and President Petersen as well as the other Senators who have assisted and supported our efforts.

Arizona Police Association Statement: A Call For Cooperative Public Safety Solutions Phoenix, AZ— Arizona Police Association Executive Director Joe Clure issued the following statement calling for cooperative public safety solutions from policy leaders: “Last week, the Arizona Police Association issued a statement responding to recent comments by the Arizona Attorney General regarding immigration enforcement. While those remarks raised serious concerns, the most important message was found in the closing paragraph, and it deserves renewed emphasis. “The Arizona Police Association calls on elected officials at every level of government to move away from politicizing law enforcement and immigration enforcement, and instead work together toward lawful, practical, and durable solutions that enhance public safety without placing officers or community members at greater risk. “When policy discussions become rigid or driven by politics, the real-world consequences are felt on the street. Lives are put at risk, including the lives of the people we are sworn to protect. That outcome serves no one. “Effective public safety requires close, cooperative, and non-political coordination among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. That coordination must include fair and reasonable operational planning, clear accountability, and a shared commitment to maintaining public trust. When those elements are missing, as we are seeing in some communities including Minnesota, confidence in the system erodes and the people most impacted are the communities themselves. “Police officers do not write the laws or set public policy. Those responsibilities rest with elected officials. Our role is to enforce the laws we are given, often in dangerous and uncertain conditions, and to do so professionally and lawfully. “We again urge all elected officials, at all levels of government, to work collaboratively toward solutions that are lawful, meaningful, and lasting. Solutions that reduce risk, strengthen trust, and protect both the public and the officers who serve them.”

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors filed a Rule 60b Motion in federal court, to end the 12 years of federal oversight of the Sheriff’s Office. This is the most significant event in my chairmanship. This is a historic moment for Maricopa County. In this video, I outline why

The APA’s 2025 Legislative priorities included a long overdue pay raise for the Department of Corrections. While the Executive and Legislature failed to include this critically needed pay raise, we were able to secure a 4% ONE-TIME BONUS for correctional officers in the final budget agreements. This is an acknowledgment of the hard work and important job performed by correctional officers. We will continue to advocate for funding to include fair market value pay raises that will address the critical staffing shortages which have been contributing to the prison’s failures. The APA appreciates Governor Hobbs for taking the call with @SecNoem to discuss the urgency of the Iranian threat. We stand with our Governor ready to address and prioritize the safety of Arizonans. Now, more than ever-- our public safety and law enforcement agencies need our state’s top Executive, Legislature, Counties, Cities, and Tribes—in collaboration with our federal government to “Back the Blue.” This is precisely the kind of threat our peace officers are properly and expertly trained for, but it is gravely important to highlight the fact that with thousands of staffing shortages across Arizona, we cannot perform at our fullest capacity to do the very job we are required to do-- protect and serve. This threat further illustrates why our agencies must be properly and adequately equipped and funded as preparedness is key to providing safety to our communities. We urge @governorhobbs @votewarren @stevemontenegro and local government officials to bring Arizona’s law enforcement experts to the table quickly and further discuss how we can better prepare for this threat that is only expected to escalate.

A passing vote for SB1232 (Arrest warrant; issuance & affidavit). This bill allows LE to more timely get arrest warrants for felony cases from a judge and help provide a safer community. We want to thank Sen. Payne, Rep. Marshall and everyone that supported this bill. #azleg
