@BodegaaCat The last player who transferred for money between the two clubs was Pat Jennings. In 1977. After they last got relegated...

@ChattaGooner Most clubs never win anything. Taking joy from your rivals' misery is part of what makes sports fandom great. Hey, that's just my opinion

@LuisFelipeHSr @billycarpy It should average out if you take multiple top teams in consideration, unless some teams are unlucky more than average.

Haha. Inherently known but still: no PSG attacker ranks among the top 1,000 players in league minutes across Europe's top-five leagues this season. The leader is Barcola with 1,395. Which is 16 starts, five of them completed. Deep recruitment. And other things...

@austriangooner1 Selecting GM - VG - NM vs Bournemouth seems a calculated decision to keep Ode, Eze, etc. sharper for City and not put too many mins on their legs. Trossard even seemed gassed in the 30 mins vs Bou. Of course, when it backfires, you lose both games. But those are the decisions.

@austriangooner1 Last 2 seasons, I think a lot of it is down to injuries. Every year he chooses to solve 1 big problem. This year it's been solving for depth. But depth becomes your starter XI with our injuries & that's suboptimal. Except midfield, he's genuinely trying to keep the main XI sharp

Illustrative example of the importance of profile balance in a lineup: Chaotic situation and the ball bounces to your CM, window of a few secs to exploit the opps disorder or secure the ball. This is where instincts come to play. Instructions don’t help you in these high octane moments. Who INSTINCTIVELY wants the ball, comes near or creates the right angles to receive, who INSTINCTIVELY runs into space and offers an outlet option. Is there the right balance at any given moment?

@austriangooner1 I think that's harsh when much of it has been about managing Saka who's had issues & a flagging Trossard. The Forest game was where the wrong call was made when one or both of Saka/Trossard were available. IIRC, other occasions seem justifiable with other fixtures, rotation needs

I think there has been hubris involved in our unbalanced lineups (GM-VG-NM eg.) over this season. The hubris to think that we can overlook these windows because we can control the other phases well enough to win games (set-pieces incl).

@fplshere9992 @billycarpy Almost all of Odegaard's injuries have been collision injuries. And Rodri's injuries this season have been off the ball, so going by your logic, Pep has mismanaged him. And KDB, Aguero for a lot of their career at City.

@CharlieVantFPL Maybe. I'll give a decent chance we start the same team except for Mosquera, Madueke vs Newcastle. I have him on my FH team fwiw.

@MaxRadwan Think we feel we have bigger fish to fry. But we absolutely need to bask in this, because for most clubs, the biggest joys are going to be seeing their rivals fail. Most clubs aren't winning something every year.

As fanbase we need to relearn schadenfreude . Chelsea and Spurs fans have no trouble sticking the knife in at the mere possibility of us not winning one of the big two, but we basically let Chelsea, and to a degree Spurs, get off scot-free
YankeeGunner@YankeeGunner

If I told you a few years ago that pretty soon, spurs would be getting relegated, Chelsea would be midtable, and Arsenal would repeatedly compete to win the CL and PL, would you ever dream you’d be this miserable? 😂

@GeorgeV_AFC Can you imagine it was only 5 years ago that there were conversations among fans and in the media for Leicester to replace Arsenal in the big 6 and they'd just won the FA Cup? Time really flies. I kinda feel bad for their fans tbh.

@fplshere9992 @billycarpy My question was solely on squad usage. Injuries can be caused by any number of factors, including poor squad usage, gamestyle But I'll humor you, is Pep's usage of Rodri why he seems to have 'broken down'? Are Bayern working Musiala/Davies to the bone causing them to break down?

One of my feelings is that top coaches have hacked the ideal role for FBs as the all-action, perpetually free man. But the physical demands are unsustainable, so you need a superhuman athlete to defy gravity, or PSG's luxury of playing them ~20x a year in league, or triples.

@GeorgeV_AFC But just like the stock of our players who are injured go up, so does alternate scenarios like Nwaneri on the wing, MLS in #10, Calafiori as CB, Norgaard starting in PL, etc. Only one that I wanted to happen more than it has was Eze on LW, even that's partly due to our injuries.

@GeorgeV_AFC If that was the plan, then getting a Saka backup was imperative. From that POV, Madueke has done well. Compare his output in all comps or PL+CL vs other backups, like Garnacho, Gittens, Elanga, Savinho, Diallo, he stands up to any of them. Only one outperforming him is CL Nelli.

There’s a lot of context involved as to player profile differences but I’m struggling to see the £50mil output difference. Frontline needed his legs but adding more dominant lane 5 runners who eat ground quickly and are right footed has to be our 1 priority.

@GeorgeV_AFC @now_arsenaI And the contrast is stark from 22-23 and 23-24 when we got behind the team even more if someone made a mistake. While now it seems like I hear boos for performances that aren't even terrible on TV? Again, media narratives exist on both of those scenarios, but it's not a good look

Fans carry more power than they can admit. We naturally are reactionary which is both a massive boost in good times + a hindrance in nervy times. Controlling how consistent you are executing actions in different environments often determines success.
DailyAFC@DailyAFC

🗣️ Tyler Adams (Bournemouth): “You could tell early on when they tried to play from the back that there was a sense of nervousness. It’s a difficult atmosphere to thrive in. As the opposition, it’s the best thing to hear.” ❌😬

@MaxRadwan I've heard boos at half-time or full-time on TV after every half bad Arsenal performance since Jan. Not sure if that's the ground reality or not, but that's a bit much. Being antsy when we try to play out of the back doesn't hurt the players, but definitely doesn't help them

@OptaAnalyst Not that it makes that much of a difference because this is unrealistic anyway, but those events aren't independent, are they though? Can't just multiply the probabilities and arrive at an answer in this scenario.
