@_PsychoAlienCat @ReemAmirIbrahim Not only that. When they found that the features were addictive and negatively impacting customers they hid that research and exploited it further

@ReemAmirIbrahim You fucking idiots. They didn't get sued for "creates something people like". Maybe try looking into the details. They prioritized profit over the safety of children by intentionally designing addictive features. You have no problem with someone preying on kids for profit?

Anytime a company creates something people like, are they just going to end up getting sued for "addiction"? Pathetic.

@EnuffaDotCom @RobertFreundLaw "Hey social media companies, stop engineering your shit to be addictive to anyone." *Fixed* Why should I as an adult also have to deal with a predatory algorithm just to, let's say, buy a used dining room table from someone in my area.

@signsofaging @RobertFreundLaw Giving your id for this stuff is a red herring to get more access to even more data. The real question is why do we tolerate this exploitive algorithm behavior *at all* Regardless of age group

@RobertFreundLaw That’s a whole other sentence and worth fighting in its own right. To use it to deter individuals from holding these companies accountable is not right. They once didn’t have federal mandates to check ids for cigarettes. Was asking folks to show a license mass surveillance?

@RobertFreundLaw If an algorithm is designed to hook users like a slot machine, it's not "engagement," it's exploitation. Targeting kids just make it more obvious. The real question isn't the lawsuit. It is why we tolerated this model at all regardless of age

These verdicts rest on a premise that is fundamentally flawed: that social media is just like any other product. It is not. No one would use an app that endlessly scrolls through blank pages or sends empty notifications, much less get “addicted” to it. The “product” in these “product design” cases is First Amendment protected expression. Speech does not and cannot exist in a vacuum. It is expressed in a particular way, at a particular time, using particular mechanisms to communicate it to others. The curation and presentation of speech is inherently interwoven with its very expression. Once you understand that, you realize that you cannot regulate “product design” without also regulating First Amendment protected expression.

This California jury’s ruling against Meta and Google is honestly wild. If social media platforms can be held liable for “causing harm” via “addiction,” what *won’t* fit that standard? I think parents should limit screen time, especially for very young kids, but come on, people.

Erika Kirk’s husband was assassinated in September. It’s March & a black comedian is putting on white face & mocking her in a video. Honest question, if a prominent black leader had been assassinated & a white comedian put on blackface & mocked his widow, what would happen?

Vance suggests Iran could have used nuclear suicide vests: “You talk about people who walk into a crowded supermarket and have a vest on, and they blow up the vest and a couple of people get killed, and that's a terrible tragedy. What happens when what's on the vest is not something that can kill a couple of people, but can kill many, many tens of thousands of people?”

@ReemAmirIbrahim Because the algorithm will actively curate and manipulate on a per user basis to be as addictive and destructive as possible. A casino simply exists and it's games are what they are. The basic rules of blackjack aren't changed as you win/lose to further addict a person

Should gambling addicts sue casinos? Should overeaters sue supermarkets? Obviously not! So why are social media companies being sued? We're entering a world where companies that create something other people actually want are at risk of being sued, banned, or heavily regulated.

@GivnerAriel Absolutely not. What is disgusting is the details of the case. The algorithms of FB and YT were specifically targeting destructive tendencies and amplify them to create greater addiction. Active manipulation A movie simply exists it doesn't change itself to draw n your attention

This is disgusting and I can’t wait for the appeals. The precedent set by YouTube being liable for screen-time addiction is kind of scary. Treating algorithms like a defective product opens the door to endless lawsuits over “addictive” tech. What’s next? Books, video games, junk food? What happened to personal responsibility?

@BadgedPatriot I do. Pro tip: swap out that crappy little valve with a full port ball valve. Makes it so much faster and you’ll actually get everything out.

@T_Bouza @Ihartitz lmao dude was drafted by JACKSONVILLE and people saying he was a flop. Jags were cheeks and used the hell out of him leading to injuries. He also faced the most 8+ man front of any RB in those years. He still was over 1000 yards as a rookie Over 1500 in 2019
