@UGC_KellyJ @nickcastle_ugc Yea this is my perspective too. I have limited time every week so have to prioritize the brands and agencies who do meet my rate. When I’m a bit light on work I’m absolutely willing to do this and do even. But just depends on where I’m at at that time.

@nickcastle_ugc But also, to play devil's advocate, once you're booked and busy, this is a pretty quick way to burnout (ask me how I know 😅 #peoplepleaser). Eventually you gotta start weeding offers out because we can only humanly shoot so much content in a week ha.

Picture this scenario with me. UGC Creator A receives an inbound about a potential $250 UGC collab. Negotiations begin and he walks because the agency could not meet his demanding minimum $350 rate. UGC Creator B receives the same inbound. But Creator B has way more experience than Creator A and her usual rates start at $400. Negotiations begin but because this creator understands the value of relationships, she accepts the $250 rate, crushes it, and the agency hires her for 5 more videos over the next 30 days totaling $1500. She keeps crushing it and as the agency has more client work, they bring her on retainer and from this one agency alone she is now making a minimum 4-figures per month. The point… sometimes you are saying no to a door of opportunities. Not every opportunity is about maximizing the first invoice. Sometimes it’s about providing value, building trust, and positioning yourself to be the first person they think of when bigger budgets come.

3 brands extended my whitelisting this month — one is going on 4 months. To me, that’s the real metric. If a brand keeps paying to run your content, it’s because it’s driving results. Long-term performance > one-off deliverables.

Let's address some common UGC mistakes to avoid Most creators think their biggest problem is filming or editing. It’s not. It’s actually the business side. Here are the mistakes I see every day as a creator sourcer for over 500+ brands: 1️⃣ Charging usage rights on UGC I know this one is controversial, but UGC is meant to be work-for-hire. When you add usage fees, renewals, timelines, and extra logistics, most brands just pass. They don’t want to manage all that. Keep it simple. Bundle everything together and make it easy to say yes. 2️⃣ Pricing yourself out of the market Charging $1,000+ for ONE video (most of the time) is not realistic for the average brand. Brands don’t want to spend 3x their ad budget just to test a creator. If the ad doesn’t perform, they’re out $1k+ before they even run ads. Stay competitive and realistic. 3️⃣ Playing the rate game Saying your rate is $1,000… then immediately dropping to $400 when a brand pushes back? From the brand side, that feels weird. If your rate is truly $1,000, stick to it. If you’re not getting deals, adjust your pricing and find a sweet spot. For me personally, my sweet spot is $400–$500 per video with 3 hooks. For repeat brands who’ve seen performance, closer to $500. Right now I offer a simple package: 3 videos for $1,000 (all raws, edits, and b-roll included). Brands LOVE it because it’s a no-brainer. I’ve signed 10 deals with that package since the start of the year. 4️⃣ Writing scripts with zero research Too many creators write what they THINK brands want to hear like "this product is super high quality, amazing product, must-have!!!" Instead of what the audience actually cares about. SO, before you type one word, read reviews, watch ads, understand what the customer really wants (this is how you get into becoming a creative strategist!!) 5️⃣ Ignoring the basics of filming Bad lighting, messy/distracting backgrounds, low energy, no personality. Natural sunlight + strong camera presence will beat fancy gear EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. LOL I would rather have a not so great script but AMAZING camera presence. Just a couple of mistakes to avoid. Hot take: Not all UGC is created equal. Reading a script + filming 5 shots ≠ handling creative, hooks, testing, and strategy. If your budget is tight BUT the job is easy— show the brief Creators aren’t allergic to lower budgets. We’re allergic to surprise workloads. Be clear. Be honest. Share the scope.
