This is a thoughtful tweet, one that deserves a response and is related to my earlier tweet on Asian impact on SF.
There are two separate critiques of Asian Americans (yes I'm including South Asians as well). One is an actual racial argument, common amonst some elements of the Groyper right and downscale Whites who are upset that Asian Americans have done so well in getting into elite U.S. institutions and achieving economic success. To them, they don't accept meritocracy but rather believe that heritage White Americans should be given a priority by virtue of their bloodline, regardless of merit. This is a low IQ argument, one that should be rejected. Thankfully, it is not shared by the vast majority of Americans, including by Whites.
However, there is a second argument - a cultural one - that I espouse. It recognizes the efficiency of Asian culture in producing successful professional & financial outcomes while also recognizing its downside on the overall vibe & social landscape of a city or institution. This is not something we can quantify but we all know it. No one thinks a SEC college for instance will be just as fun as it is now if the student body were 50% Asian. And no one thinks Stagecoach would be epic if 50% of the attendees were Asian.
The broader point is that there is indeed a unique White American culture, one that lends itself to social experiences that are fundamentally different from Asian American culture. And to be clear, this is not a normative argument, not saying that one is inferior to the other. But simply that if you're optimizing for certain things in life, you may want to live in a city that is not culturally Asian.

The original post about the SF dating event was cringe (yet innocent!). The reactions to it, though, are becoming a pattern. See the attached image. I think we’re facing a cultural assimilation problem that remains largely invisible because these groups do well financially and are otherwise prosocial. Because of this, I worry that East and South Asians have become the face of misplaced anger toward “coastal elites.” If you live in these circles you might not see it, but a lot of Americans will have a hard time accepting 2nd-gen East/South Asian immigrants as the new professional class. Merit doesn’t matter to many of these people because they read much of "striver" culture as crass therefore undeserving status. And on top of that, they’re seen as “stealing” a birthright from downwardly mobile heritage Americans.
