Watching Southern Lebanese attempting to return to their villages en masse is always a sight for sore eyes ❤️. The concern in these situations of course is that Israel, which still occupies a chunk of the South, may commit massacres against forcibly displaced civilians. The last time this was attempted while the Israelis were still occupying large chunks of Lebanese land was on Jan 26 2025, when IDPs tried to return home per the original Israeli withdrawal schedule, and were shot at by Israeli forces leading to 24 fatalities and 134 injuries - the largest single-day casualty event during the first "ceasefire" period (the "withdrawal" deadline was then extended to Feb 18 2025, but the Israelis continued to occupy at least 5 strategic points in the South). Hoping nothing remotely similar happens this time and all Southerners are eventually able to return home.

I just don’t see how this deal lasts. Too many obstacles with Trump scared to give money, Israel and Hezbollah locked in Lebanon, Netanyahu needing escalation for elections, Iran having a divided leadership and internal instability. And as we have seen, no ceasefire involving Israel is ever obeyed.
