I constantly feel like I don’t have enough time to take deep dives through old charts to reconstruct a thorough hx, to round on patients with a mindful presence rather than a shadow hurrying from room to room, and to write meaningful notes that I don’t feel embarrassed by. 4/

Instead of keeping the struggles with being a new #attending private, I’ve decided to share openly with #MedTwitter for 3 reasons: 1) #journaling as a form of cathartic release, 2) pushing back against toxic stoicism in medicine, & 3) seeking community wisdoms. 🧵1/

I want to stay true to my authentic self. I want to be able to give my best to all of my pts instead of cutting corners or short change my compassion or my natural curiosity. It really hurts when I feel like my pts are not getting the best care that I know I can offer. 8/

Being an attending can be lonely. Gone are the days of huddling with coresidents laughing at the absurdities of residency. Nowadays, I carry a phone getting calls from strangers as I am still learning names. And with masks, it is even more difficult to learn new faces. 6/
