💯Im just gonna keep it Real here… The Pro has been (and arguably still is ) the best Value in premium Gaming since Nov 2024. But its Peak Value was Summer 2025 when Sony officially had it on sale for $649 USD. Like many people, I sold my base PS5 and purchased a brand new PS5 Pro for less than $400. Cheaper than my PS3 in 2006, cheaper than my PS4 in 2013. I’m paying the same price for consoles back when MySpace was poppin. No PC on Earth can match the Pro for $400-$800 dollars. Most Pro games are 1440p+ and 4K, and even a very few select games can literally play at Native 5K & 6K no upscaling, no PSSR, confirmed by Digital Foundry themselves.

The Pro makes up 3% (which Sony doesn’t even share that information so we’ll just pretend your right) of the install base bc it came out 4 years after PS5 came out. The Pro is not for you, it’s not for everyone like the base PS5 is. It’s a Premium item, a Luxury item. The fact that it was so cheap last year makes people forget that fact. The disc tray you can buy used to get it cheaper. None of this matters, bc the Pro even now is gonna be much much cheaper than Steam Machine, PLAYSTATION 6, and especially XBOX PC Helix. I find it funny that people that missed out or skipped out on the Pro…. But they think they are still gonna get a PlayStation 6 or any Next Gen console/pc below $1000. $80 disc tray is nothing compared to what’s coming.

💯 I agree with you. Steam Machine has it benefits. But the Pro is so much better, price wise, and more powerful. Plus if you have a PS5 already…the Pro is a logical upgrade. But if you have a decent pc already… I don’t see the average consumer going out to spend $1049 on a low level PC with no controller and only 512gb of storage.

@Baby_Boyyyyy @digitalfoundry If you don't buy games on steam you of course don't need a Steam Machine. But a lot of gamers today do have a big steam library. And for them it can be a very nice (2nd, bed/living room...) TV device.

$50 or $70 bucks. But also since I’ve been Digital for 11 years ( I hate physical cases, clutter, and thick consoles… that’s just me tho) I’m glad they took the disc drive out bc that save me money and reduced the console cost. Again $649 for a Luxury console is Excellent. It was even cheaper since I sold my PS5 and upgraded. we will never see a premium console or even a regular PlayStation 6 for $649 Ever again. Those days are over. For everyone.

Valve's reasoning for not subsidizing the Steam Machine at a loss is that they wanted to put Steam, PC, and their existing customers first. While I don't like the price, I can't argue the reasoning.

💯🤔 True. But to the 90 Million+ PS5 users including me… I’m pretty sure that Does Not affect most of them. And like me…. many of us do not care about our steam library. 95% of my Library is on PSN. I can’t imagine PlayStation fans who spend $600-$800 on a PS5 Pro are worried about their Steam library.

I honestly don't know how Microsoft makes money anymore. I don't use any Microsoft office tools. I have a gaming computer but I immediately slapped Linux onto it. They killed XBox by forcing subscriptions to use the platform for XBox One They bought Banjo-Kazooie by acquiring Rare, but never did anything with it. Only thing that they got going is their research department and their cheap Azure cloud platform which has a lot of issues

The Steam Machine prices have hit, and people told me I was crazy when I said they could be $1,000. Welp. That's nearly the starting price. 512GB starts at $1,049 or you can grab the 2TB version for $1,349. At least there's an LED strip?
